Tag: enrico lo verso Wayne Rooney's hat trick kept Manchester United on track to win the English Premier League with a 4-2 comeback victory over West Ham on Saturday. Chelsea's hopes of retaining the title were hurt by a 1-1 tie at Stoke. Chelsea, in third place, needed a 33rd-minute header by Didier Drogba to escape with a draw against a club in the middle of the standings. Rooney's first hat trick in 14 months allowed Man United to bounce back from a 2-0 halftime deficit, boosting their chances for a record 19th English championship. "We played like champions," United manager Alex Ferguson said. "It was a real championship performance as far as I'm concerned." Liverpool, which shares the record of 18 titles with United, lost 2-1 against a West Bromwich Albion team led by its former manager, Roy Hodgson. Tottenham's prospects of a second straight top-four finish dimmed with a 0-0 draw at Wigan. Chelsea has eight games left and is 11 points behind United, which has played one more game. Second-place Arsenal can keep United's lead at five points with victory over Blackburn in Saturday's late match. Two penalty kicks by Mark Noble put relegation-threatened West Ham ahead 2-0 by the 25th minute at Upton Park. Rooney curled in a 65th-minute free kick for just his eighth league goal of the season. Eight minutes later, he struck his 100th goal in the top tier of English soccer, creating room on the edge of the penalty area and shooting past goalkeeper Robert Green. The England striker then scored a 79th-minute penalty kick following Matthew Upson's inadvertent hand ball. Javier Hernandez scored from Ryan Giggs' cross with six minutes left. "We don't give up, no matter what the score," Rooney said. "We were brilliant all over the park, but even when we haven't been playing well we have been grinding out results." Also, Aston Villa drew 2-2 at Everton; Newcastle beat Wolverhampton 4-1; and Birmingham defeated Bolton 2-1. ___ BERLIN (AP) — Borussia Dortmund rallied to beat Hannover 4-1 at home and stay seven points ahead in the Bundesliga. Hannover slipped to fourth after Arjen Robben's goal was enough for Bayern Munich to reclaim third place with a 1-0 win at home over Borussia Moenchengladbach. Mohammed Abdellaoue opened the scoring for Hannover in the 57th minute, and Mario Goetze tied it two minutes later. Lucas Barrios' header gave Florian Fromlowitz no chance in the 64th minute, and he made the game safe in the 73rd. Kevin Grosskreutz rounded off the scoring in the 83rd. Second-place Bayer Leverkusen won 1-0 at Kaiserslautern and there were 1-1 draws between Werder Bremen and Stuttgart, and Mainz and Freiburg. ___ GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Rangers lost at home to Dundee United for the first time in a decade, a 3-2 defeat that cost the defending champions first place in the Scottish Premier League. Rangers are in second place with 65 points, two fewer than Glasgow rival Celtic. Both clubs have played 28 matches. Rangers led 2-1 on goals by Nikica Jelavic and Steven Naismith, but Johnny Russell tied it in the 77th minute. Steven Whittaker hit the bar with a header from a Rangers corner kick, and Tangerines striker David Goodwillie raced up the other end to score with a minute to go. , song Markus Schulz | Global DJ Broadcast (7 february 2005), mp3 songs download Classics Funky mix volume 2 - Doctor Bee - Various Artists

Tag: vita in famiglia WASHINGTON – Members of Congress sharply questioned Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke Wednesday over whether the Fed's policies are raising the risk of higher inflation in the months ahead. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said he is concerned that the Fed won't be able to detect inflation until "the cow is out of the barn" and inflation is already spreading dangerously through the economy. Bernanke acknowledged that inflation is surging in emerging economies. But he downplayed the risks to the U.S. economy, even as lawmakers expressed concerns about rising gasoline and food prices. Inflation in the United States remains "quite low," Bernanke said. He blamed higher prices on strong demand from fast-growing countries such as China_ not the Fed's policies to stimulate the economy, including buying $600 billion worth of Treasury debt. Bernanke's remarks suggest the Fed will stick with the bond-buying plan through June, as scheduled. The program is aimed at invigorating the economy by lowering rates on loans and boosting prices on stocks. It was Bernanke's first appearance before the House since Republicans took control last month. He faced tough questions from them, despite being a member of the party. Ryan worries that the Fed's stimulus policies, including the debt purchases, could trigger inflation or fuel speculative buying of stocks or other assets. "Many of us fear monetary policy is on a difficult track," Ryan said. Rep. Todd Rokita, R-Ind., seemed skeptical of the Fed's ability to fend off inflation before it gets out of hand. In the Fed's history, when did the Fed "get it right?" Rokita asked. Bernanke said former Fed Chairman Paul Volcker brought down double-digit inflation during the 1980s by pushing up interest rates to levels not seen since the Civil War. The Fed chief said he was confident the Fed has the political will to boost interest rates and snuff out inflationary forces before they take hold. Bernanke did acknowledge that rising gas prices are a threat to the economy. Prices have been around $3 a gallon nationally. If they were to go above $4 a gallon, that would "take a significant amount of disposable income away from people," he said. Still, Bernanke defended the bond-purchase program. He said it is needed to ease high unemployment and credited all the Fed's stimulus policies with creating or saving 3 million jobs over the past several years. The unemployment rate was 9 percent in January after the fastest two-month decline in 53 years.Bernanke said the drop is encouraging but cautioned that it will take four ofive years for hiring to return to normal — around 5 percent or 6 percent. He said the economic recovery won't be assured until companies step up hiring on a consistent basis. Ryan and Bernanke agreed that Congress and the White House must have a plan to reduce the government's $1 trillion-plus deficits. Ryan favors budget cuts to get the deficits under control. Bernanke didn't endorse any specific policies on deficit-cutting. He said lawmakers should hold off on spending cuts or tax increases until the economy is in better shape. Bernanke again warned Republicans that they shouldn't play political games with the Treasury Department's request to raise the government borrowing authority. Treasury has asked to raise the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling. House Republicans have vowed to make deep spending cuts a precondition. "We do not want to default on our debts. It would be very destructive," Bernanke said. At the same time Bernanke was testifying, Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, held a hearing on whether the Fed's bond-buying program and record-low interest rates can really help create jobs. Paul, an outspoken critic of the central bank, favors abolishing the Fed. Lawmakers at that hearing also expressed concerns that the Fed's policies will spur inflation. "If the Fed didn't see this mess coming, will they see the recovery starting in time to turn off the printing presses to stop inflation," asked Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Okla. "I am not sure their vision in the future will be any better than in the past." ___ AP Economics Writer Martin Crutsinger contributed to this report. Tag: finale ligure The third annualwas held on the weekend of Feb. 4 to 5 in and around Gloucester, Mass. The event, co-sponsored byand the , aims not only to attract experienced birders, but offer an inexpensive winter activity for families that is both fun and informative, even for those with little or no birding experience. This year, the Cape Ann Winter Birding Weekend came on the heels of several big northeast storms that left many area rooftops buried under so much snow that the . Despite the wintry conditions, turnout was good with 71 people registered for the event according to the Cape Ann Chamber. "It's not a record attendance number," said Tim Burton of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, "but it is a good number considering the recent weather." Forecasts for Saturday called for temperatures near freezing and rain beginning in the early afternoon. Fortunately, the rain held off for almost the entire day with only a few minutes of very light rain during the events outdoor activities. Wayne Petersen, one of the expert birding guides leading the four event bus tours and Director of Mass Audubon's Massachusetts Important Birding Areas, told attendees "these are near-perfect condition for ocean birding. The high overcast sky really increases the visibility of birds on the water." Indeed, those on bus number two with Petersen counted upwards of forty species of birds on Saturday. Guides and some participants set up birding scopes for use by all attendees to make sure everyone got a great view of the various species of sea birds floating offshore at the various locations visited on the bus tour. The Cape Ann Birding Weekend, says Chris Leahy, the Gereard A. Bertrand Chair of natural History and Field Ornithology at Mass Audubon, "was born a few years ago when the Chamber called me to ask whether it was a good idea. I thought it was a great idea and the partnership with Mass Audubon and the Cape Ann Chamber was born." Leahy, whose books include "Introduction to New England Birds," and "Birdwatcher's Companion to North American Birdlife," said of the event, "Our goal is not to make money. Our interest is in promoting interest in nature and bird watching." The expenses of the annual birding weekend are underwritten by the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, with help from business sponsors, "without whom," Burton noted, "we could not put on this event." Birders and Other Rare Species Flock to Cape Ann in Winter "Cape Ann is very well-known for its winter birding," Leahy explained. "Many very rare species are easy to see here in winter." The purple sandpiper is a good example. In summer it resides in Greenland and the extreme north of Canada; during the winter, however, coastal birders are almost guaranteed to spot them on the rocky coasts of Cape Ann. In addition to Dovekies, Razorbill, Iceland Gulls, and the event's signature bird, the very striking Harlequin Duck, attendees this year also saw a Harp Seal resting on the rocky beach at the Straitsmouth Cove stop of the morning bus tours. The Harp Seal is a resident of the Arctic whose range does not normally include the United States according to a . In addition to the bus tours, the event featured a number of bird-related vendor displays, and slideshow presentations of the birds and wildlife of the Svarlbad, Belize and Cape Ann. The Sunday morning bird watching ocean cruise that had been planned for the Cape Ann Birding Weekend had to be cancelled this year because of poor weather conditions forecast for the day. Tag: player Moscow – Russia's reviving space industry might be working on its own version of the US Air Force's reusable unmanned space plane. After all, Russian space experts seemed surprised, a little alarmed, and possibly in awe of the American X-37B when it was successfully flight-tested from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on April 22. The head of Russia's Space Forces, Lt. Gen. Oleg Ostapenko, dropped a tantalizing hint last week that suggested that Russian researchers were working on a similar design. "Something has been done along these lines, but as to whether we will use it, only time will tell," General Ostapenko was quoted by the official RIA-Novosti agency as saying. IN PICTURES: The X-37 space plane The American X-37B, which spent seven months in orbit doing secret research before returning last December, is a remotely controlled, scaled-down space shuttle-like craft that appears to be dedicated mainly to military tasks. Most Russian media coverage about the mini-shuttle was dominated by fear. Would the US use the enhanced orbital capabilities the space plane makes possible to undercut Russia's national security? Would the X-37B threaten Russian satellites or even install space-based antimissile weapons? "The original idea of this space plane was to destroy the enemy's sputniks," says Vladimir Shcherbakov, deputy editor of Vzlyot (Liftoff), a leading Russian aerospace journal. "It's a kind of space fighter. If your enemy loses all his sputniks which provide his communication, intelligence, navigation, etc. he will be in a panic, he'll be helpless. So it's critical, if you're going to build one, that you state what it's for and whom it's directed against," he says. "The Americans haven't declared who their X-37 is to be used against. They just say they're developing new technologies." Mr. Shcherbakov says it's quite likely that Russia is working on its own space plane, since the Kremlin nowadays identifies successful space projects as key to boosting Russia's international prestige and has spent a lot more money on the once-moribund space industry. "Nowadays there's more financing, so the search for cutting-edge projects that we can accomplish is going on intensively," he says. "When the Boeing X-37 was tested, it raised questions from the bosses about whether we were building one, too. But this is a secret subject in the US, and even more so here. So no one will tell you for sure." The once-mighty Soviet space program virtually collapsed during the 1990s, and its only big remaining project is to act as a kind of "space taxi" to ferry astronauts to the International Space Station. The USSR built a space shuttle, the Buran, which was modeled on the US version, but only managed to test it twice before the program was scrapped in 1993. The surviving copy of the Buran serves as a children's attraction in Moscow's riverside Gorky Park amusement center. But with growing financial resources, Russian space scientists have a lot more ideas on their drawing boards these days. These include a nuclear-powered spacecraft that could carry cosmonauts to Mars, and a Pac Man-like nuclear powered space pod that could gobble up space garbage and perhaps be used to protect the Earth from asteroid collisions. A functioning space plane might be useful for the Russians to service the new Glonass satellite network, Russia's answer to the American GPS system, which is still on track to launch this year despite a disastrous crash that cost the program three satellites last December. Andrei Ionin, an independent space expert, says that Ostapenko's hint about a Russian version of the X-37B is hard to interpret. "It is the logic of space research that both Russia and the US usually find themselves doing much the same things," he says. "They built a shuttle, we built a shuttle, and so on. But comments like Ostapenko's should be followed by demonstrations and proper official statements. As things stand, who knows what he meant? Perhaps it was just a bit of PR?"
