RNC chairman Steele tells establishment Republicans to shut up about Tea Party candidates

Michael Steele has a message for the unnamed GOP insiders who recently they fear the possibility of a Sarah Palin presidential run: “shut up.”

“TheseRepublican leaders who don’t put their name in print but makecommentsin the shadows need to shut up,”љ Steele in an interview on CNN Mondaymorning. “We need to focus onwinning elections tomorrow night. … Ineed every Republican in thecountry, whether they are in the shadowsor not.”

Steelealso said he was “very happy” with Tea Party favorite Joe Miller in Alaska, and dismissed rumors that the GOP is concerned aboutinsurgent candidates. Those who are, said Steele, need to shape up andserve the party’s election efforts.

“[Milleris] our nominee for the party and the Republican committeesupports ournominee,” said Steele. “There’s no where to throw supportanywhere elseexcept behind him so I don’t know who these Republicanleaders are ,but they need to be focused on winning the election andnot trying togerrymander the outcome.”

Steele insisted that “shadow” Republicans creating divisions within the party need get in line with desires of the Tea Party.

“[TheTea Party] is an organic movement. You can’t tell them who tovote for orwho not to. That is anti-American. The people want to takecreativecontrol of the election,” said Steele. “Again, that’s whatfrustrates… Republicans within in the party with establishment types who thinkthey knowmore than the people about who they want to lead them.”
