L'azione di vigilanza esercitata dalla Banca d'Italia e dal Tesoro sulla Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (Milano: - ) e sulla sua fondazione è stata "continua, attenta e appropriata" e si è intensificata negli anni.
Lo ha detto il ministro del Tesoro, Vittorio Grilli, durante una audizione parlamentare sull'istituto senese richiesta a seguito dello scandalo dei derivati scoppiato la scorsa settimana.
Il ministro ha anche detto che la bont della vigilanza bancaria italiana è dimostrata dal fatto che, "malgrado la gravissima crisi della fine del 2008 e a differenza di grandi Paesi a noi comparabili, le nostre banche hanno mostrato una tenuta, capacit e solidit uniche, non rendendo necessari interventi di salvataggio pubblico".
E' dunque "indispensabile" per Grilli "non insinuare dubbi sulla solidit del nostro sistema [...], neanche la vicenda Mps modifica questo quadro di solidit ".
Il ministro invita poi a "tenere distinte eventuali responsabilit degli amministratori dalla vita dell'istituzione bancaria e dal risparmio dei cittadini".
Grilli ha invitato i parlamentari della commissione Finanze della Camera, davanti ai quali parla, a un dibattito "prudente e responsabile" sulla questione Mps vista l'attenzione dei mercati al tema.
