Tennis is a game played between two players (singles) or between two teams of two players (doubles). The short mark in the center of each baseline is referred to as either the hash mark or the center mark. The outermost tennis lines that make up the length are both called the doubles sideline. These are the boundaries used when doubles is being played. The area between the doubles sideline and the lines next to them is called the doubles alley, which is considered playable in doubles play.
