An official of the Department of Foreign Affairs Friday announced that the bodies of the Filipino woman and her baby boy killed by her Japanese husband will be flown to the Philippines on Sunday.
DFA spokesman Claro Cristobal said the cadavers of Crisanta Lopez Nagano, 33; and her son, Naomasa, will arrive in Manila via Philippine Airlines PR431 on March 30 at around 1:30 p.m.
Cristobal said the bodies of the two will be in Manila for "funeral preparations". The remains will be flown to Roxas City on April 1.
Vice President Noli de Castro, also Presidential Adviser on Overseas Filipino Workers, facilitated the repatriation of the bodies of the Naganos.
Cost of the caskets for Naganos who both died in the hands of bus driver Masayoshi Nagano, 43, will be shouldered by the DFA
The twin murders were earlier confirmed by Philippine consul general to Tokyo Sulpicio Confiado after it was reported in several Japanese newspapers, which said that Nagano showed up Thursday morning at a police station in Higashikurume and admitted he had killed his wife and son at his apartment two days earlier.
Confiado said the suspect surrendered to police and said he killed his wife and child because he was worried about an outstanding loan and that he also meant to kill himself but could not do so.
Japanese newspapers said the police quoted Nagano as saying: "My baby cried at night, and I was depressed about my job and the future. I tried to kill myself, too, but I couldn't do it."
A report on the Web site of Japan Today quoted Nagano as saying that he tried in vain to kill himself after killing his family. The news article said police have found evidence that he attempted to hang himself at the apartment, the officials said.
A report on the Web site of Yomiuri Shimbun reported that Lopez had cuts on her head caused by a blade, while the boy was apparently strangled, the police said.
Confiado said police was still conducting the investigation and expects the speedy resolution of the case considering the "urgency and gravity of the crime". With a report from Ni�±a Corpuz, ABS-CBN News
