Take the case of Yuga Olandres, who operates a Web hosting service from his living room in Makati City. In this line of work called telecommuting, Olandres only needs a computer with an Internet connection and a telephone to transact business and talk to clients. Hawak ko oras ko...I'm my own boss!, he said. Olandres, one of the numerous Filipinos who are into telecommuting, said he is able to save a lot of money in transportation and food costs. He also said he does not need to spend for office clothing and other incidentals. And even if he does not work in a typical office, the earnings can well be at the level of an executive. He said he earns roughly P120,000 a month or P1.4 million annually. Doris Tungpalan, on the other hand, works form home as an online essay writer and a home-based tutor. In the morning, Tungpalan's apartment becomes a classroom for her students. When they go home, she goes to her computer and writes essays her American clients request from her. In her work as an essay writer, she said she earns as much as P300 per page. She said she averages P40,000 per month. In the course of a year she earns around P600,000, working for nine months annually since students are on vacation for the rest of the year. Despite the lure of earning large sums of money, both Olandres and Tungpalan said patience and discipline is still key in working from home. With Apples Jalandoni, ABS-CBN News. |
