Newt Gingrich adviser: I'd be surprised if he doesn't run in 2012

Don’t bet against Newt Gingrich running for president in 2012, according to one close adviser to the former House speaker.

“I would be very surprised if he doesn’t run,” said Joe Gaylord,as Gingrich’s “closest political counsel.”

Gaylord continued: “Does he want to run? You bet. Does he think he can figure out a way to do that? Yes. But he’s got to go through all the processes to make sure he can do it financially.”

The Des Moines Register, which interviewed Gingrich, reports that the Republican is making arrangements that would allow him to begin a campaign in February, when he has said he will make a decision. These include personal preparations, he said, like what to do with the businesses he and his wife own.

Gingrich told the paper that he believes the country is “at the precipice of a very large fundamental change” and he thinks “being the candidate who articulates that movement would be overwhelmingly attractive.”
