The rules of the 3rd edition of the Cosmos Cup

The registration is opened from monday 8 until to sunday 14 January The first 24 teams will be accepted, but it is possible that the tournament is widened to the maximum number of 28 teams.

The registration can be made only from monday 8, in two ways:

The calendar will be introduced monday 15 January.

From thursday 18 january the friendly can be organized as you have always made on Hattrick respecting the programming.

The Cosmos Cup will begin the 23 - 24 january.

The smaller equipe will play at home always, that is those that are in the inferior series and the position of classify more lowland, however in the calendar the teams will be indicated that they will have right to play in his stadium.

The teams can themselves also be come to an agreement in order to play in an other stadium.

When envoys the demand for the encounter, informed the adversary through ht-mail.

Who not accept the challenge between thursday morning and saturday morning, will endure a defeat for 5 to zero and consequently the adversary will obtain the three points.

This will serve to giving the possibility to the adversary to organize a friendly one. In any case informed Dr_Sleepnight of the Maserada Cosmos of every problem.

If we are in 24 teams like the old edition , there will be four groups calls with the names of four old players of New York Cosmos:

The groups will be composed from clubs, more or less, of the same series.

Therefore in the group Randy Horton will meet the stronger Cosmos teams, while in the group Ricky Davies will play the teams of the inferior series.

Every victory means 3 points, the balancing 1 point, defeat 0 points.

Five matches garanteed !

The winner of every tournament will be established in the following order:

- points totals

- difference goals

- greater number of goals

- direct match

The four winners of every group will go in semifinals ( 27 - 28 February)

Seville,Spain.

I play to Hattrick since November,2003 and win the second edition of the
Cosmos Cup its for me very exciting and i am happy for it.
I want to give my congratulations at the manager of Croydon Cosmos for
his great match in the final and all the mates that have played in
this cup. i think that im lucky for play with my best players
because in my league i havent nothing to do at all so that for it
won the cup. For last, i want to give thanks to Dr_Sleepnight of the

The final of the 2nd edition of the Cosmos Cup

1449 punters turned up at St. Williams Park, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. S.S.COSMOS tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Lineup: Carreras - Alzogaray, Schreeber, Benítez - Andes, Washington, Lungu, Frostenby, Pawlaś - Vacca, Bladsjö.

Croydon Cosmos decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: Ariva - Behrens, Rasmussen, Thomas, Arno - Sundukov, Merillat, Sandell, Halsted - Fair, Omay.

S.S.COSMOS seemed to prefer attacking in the middle. Croydon immediately set off using their skill at pressing their opponents. S.S.COSMOS made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left Mats Bladsjö completely alone with keeper Viljar Ariva, who made a spectacular block. A wonderful trick by Marek Pawlaś that left Roberto Arno bewildered really deserved to end in a goal but the keeper made a fine save. 11 minutes into the game, a free kick combination hooked into the box by Hugo Schreeber almost resulted in the home team taking the lead, but the last header went wide. Allan Fair of Croydon was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. The pressing tactics used by Croydon were successful at containing their opponents. The guests took the lead in the 24th minute, after a right-side attack resulted in Rieuwert Behrens scoring the 0 - 1 goal. Roman Andes of S.S.COSMOS received a yellow card in the 25th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Ciprian Lungu was just a finger's breadth away from an equaliser for S.S.COSMOS, but Viljar Ariva managed to ward the closing shot off to a corner. It was 0 - 1 at the break. The forty-five minutes were dominated by S.S.COSMOS, with an impressive 63 percent possession of the ball.

49 minutes into the game, Mats Bladsjö came close to evening the score with a dangerous shot that went just wide of the bar. Mattias Frostenby pulled a real crowd pleaser as he, in the 77th minute, wove through the guest's entire central defense line and put the 1 - 1 equaliser away. Mattias Frostenby gave his S.S.COSMOS the lead with 2 - 1, as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then placed the ball unreachably at the keeper's right post. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in S.S.COSMOS's Paco Alzogaray putting the lead up to 3 - 1. In the 89th minute, S.S.COSMOS's Hugo Schreeber received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. The pressing tactics used by Croydon were successful at containing their opponents. This half belonged to S.S.COSMOS, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.

S.S.COSMOS's top performer was clearly Francisco Carreras. Roman Andes was a disappointment, however. Mattias Sandell performed admirably for Croydon. Rieuwert Behrens turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 3 - 1.

New York Red Bull

NEW YORK (Reuters) - It is not easy living in the shadows of Pele and Franz Beckenbauer.

Even former United States coach Bruce Arena, the new manager of the Red Bull New York soccer club, knows that. He is under no illusion that he might soon be presiding over a return to the glory days of the New York Cosmos.

"If everyone is waiting for the Cosmos to arrive, it's not going to happen," he said. "We're not going to be the Cosmos. We're not a superclub."

To some, those comments in an interview with Sports Illustrated magazine might seem defeatist talk from the latest would-be miracle-worker brought in to New York's troubled Major League Soccer (MLS) club. Arena, though, is a realist who knows no magic wand will bring instant success.

"We'll do our best to bring a good team to this marketplace," Arena said after constant negative comparisons with the Cosmos, who electrified the Big Apple with the artistry and glamour of Pele, Beckenbauer and a host of aging big names.

"I'm not sure it's necessarily different except for these expectations that still exist of being compared to the Cosmos," said the man who led the U.S. in the last two World Cup tournaments.

More than two decades after the New York Cosmos played their last North American Soccer League (NASL) game, the ghosts of the past still stalk Giants Stadium.

In a short, glorious period from 1971-84 they won five NASL titles and were twice runners-up, attracting near sell-out 80,000 crowds and proving to non-believers that Americans would pay to watch soccer.

SORRY BUNCH

Their successors are a sorry bunch by comparison, despite the words of ex-general manager and U.S. World Cup player Alexi Lalas who said the team, which has won no silverware in 10 seasons, was destined to become a "superclub."

In 10 seasons as the New York/New Jersey Metrostars, and now reborn in the 11th as the Red Bulls, the MLS team has only once advanced past the first round of the playoffs.

Their regular season record over the decade is 125 wins, 146 losses and 35 ties. This season they are languishing near the bottom of the standings with more losses (8) than wins (6) and 11 draws.

The club has had nine coaches in 11 years, including Brazil's World Cup winner Carlos Alberto Parreira, Carlos Queiroz, the Manchester United number two, and now Arena, who replaced ex-Scotland player Mo Johnston.

Some big names have also played in the red and black of the Metrostars/Red Bulls, including new Italy coach Roberto Donadoni, German World Cup-winning captain Lothar Mathaeus and, currently, French World Cup winner Youri Djorkaeff.

After his first game in charge, however -- a 0-0 draw at home to MLS league leaders DC United -- Arena was less than optimistic that Cosmos-like glory days were around the corner.

"We're not one of the premier teams in the league, we know that, we're going to get better," he said.

After losing 4-1 in a friendly to European Champions Barcelona last month, Arena was typically blunt: "We don't have world-class players in the United States."

NEW OWNERS

Veteran U.S. goalkeeper Tony Meola, who is in his second spell with the club, said there were signs that the new owners, the Red Bull soft drink company of Austria, were serious about turning things around.

"The lack of stability has made it difficult," he said. "The team has been in the league 11 years and finally we know that the people at the top have a stake in the team. Before, we didn't know from day to day what was going to happen."

He hopes the new owners, who bought the club for an estimated $100 million from the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), will bring a change in fortune. The company purchased an Austrian team last year and Red Bull Salzburg is currently top of the Austrian league.

Red Bull has already invested in bringing Arena to New York -- he will not reveal how much his contract is worth -- and is bankrolling a practice facility, something the Metrostars never had.

The company will also invest in the new stadium to be built in nearby Harrison, New Jersey, where crowds of 20,000 will not look quite as lost as they do in the 80,000-capacity Giants Stadium which was built for American football.

These are the kind of changes Lalas talked about last year, when he was named general manager under AEG.

"We have a lot of work to do," Lalas said on joining the front office of the club he had played for. "But I feel we have the potential on and off the field to become world-renowned. I think we can become the first superclub in MLS."

Nine months later, Lalas was gone, becoming GM of the Los Angeles Galaxy, as the Metrostars were sold to Red Bull.

Arena, not a man given to hyperbole, poured scorn on Lalas's comments. "If I told you this was a superclub, are you going to believe me?" he asked in the New York Times.

New York Cosmos

The New York Cosmos (1971-1985) was a franchise in the North American Soccer League, based in New York and New Jersey founded by the Ertegun brothers. It was one of the stronger NASL franchises, both athletically and financially. In its later years it became somewhat renowned for signing the great Brazilian player Pelè, who though at this point was well past his prime, was nonetheless one of the team's, and the league's, top gate draws during his tenure with the Cosmos. The NASL folded after the 1984 season, but the Cosmos attempted to operate as an independent team in 1985 before they folded.

The name was coined by Clive Toye, the club's first General Manager. Taking inspiration from a New York baseball franchise the "Mets," short for "Metropolitans," he took it a step further: Cosmopolitans, or "Cosmos."

Famous players to play for the club include Carlos Alberto, Franz Beckenbauer, Vladislav Bogicevic, Giorgio Chinaglia, Rick Davis, Marinho Chagas, Andranik Eskandarian, Johan Neeskens, Werner Roth, Julio Cesar Romero, Roberto Cabanas, Jomo Sono (who later named his own soccer club in South Africa the Jomo Cosmos) and most notably Pelè. On October 1, 1977, Pelé closed out his legendary career in front of a capacity crowd at Giants Stadium. In an exhibition match televised nationwide and worldwide, he played the first half with the Cosmos and the second half with his old team Santos.

That season, the Cosmos played in their first season at Giants Stadium and after turmoil that nearly destroyed the team throughout most of the season,the Cosmos won 15 games and a berth in the playoffs. In the playoffs, the Cosmos ellinmate the Tampa Bay Rowdies 3-0 before 57,828. Then in the Divisional playoffs, the Cosmos sweep the Fort Lauderdale Strikers 2 games to 0, including an 8-3 thrashing before an NASL record of 77,691 At Giants Stadium. The Cosmos then beat the Seattle Sounders 2-1 in Soccer Bowl '77 to capture their 2nd NASL Championship.

Much of the team's ability to acquire big players was due to the fact that the franchise was owned by Warner Communications. In the early 80's, Warner was the target of a hostile takeover bid by Australian media magnate Rupert Murdoch. His attempt did not succeed, but afterward Warner sold off several of its assets, among them Atari and Global Soccer, Inc., the subsidiary that operated the Cosmos. The club was sold to a syndicate led by Chinaglia. This group did not have the capital to continue to operate the team at the level when the team was owned by Warner Communications, resulting in a fire sale of many of the stars. By the last season in 1984, the Cosmos did not even make the playoffs. The precipitous decline of the Cosmos after the 1983 season became for many fans and the media proof positive of the grave condition of the whole NASL.

The team was also a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League during the 1984-85 season, but withdrew after 33 games due to low attendance.

Due to the popularity of the team and the automatic association of the team with soccer with many non-soccer fans in the U.S., there have been talks to revive the name for Major League Soccer if a second franchise is awarded to New York (after the charter member the New York Red Bulls, formerly MetroStars). The name and logo are currently still owned by former team owner, Giuseppe Peppe Pinton, who supposedly has asked for $2 million for the rights to the trademarks.

In 2006 a feature length documentary about the New York Cosmos called Once In A Lifetime was released in cinemas. The film was narrated by Matt Dillon and featured interviews with many of the players and people involved in the team. However, Pele declined to be interviewed after the filmmakers balked at his demand for $100,000.

The New York Cosmos are still the only team to have all the world's best players playing in it in a short period thats why this team will be rememberd as soccers international dreamteam.

The Cosmos Cup

The first edition has seen participants 12 teams inserted in 4 rounds. The idea has been that one to help the smaller teams and little blasonate. First the teams have been coupled to second of the series in which they played in such way to have a first one round with best the three and then a last quarter and round with them gets worse three. In this way there was the possibility to pass to the successive turn and to play more games also for the smaller squares. Moreover it has been safeguarded also the economy of the small clubs, in fact the team who turned out in the series and the position of classifies inferior, had the right to play in house with the favor of the public and without expenses for the transfer. After five turns the Maserada Cosmos has won in the final for 3 to 1 against the Cosmos Bern.

The Cosmos Federation is born

The Cosmos Federation (alliance id 44169) is a group of passionate of Hattrick joined from the same denomination of the club: Cosmos.

Hattrick is a manageriale game of soccer on line, of which you can better understand some going to www.hattrick.org.

The main scope of the Cosmos Federation is the organization of the Cosmos Cup. Draft of one competition alternative to the championship and the national Goblet. It is carried out essentially in the second part of the season when the greater part of the teams is not engaged in the national goblet.

In Hattrick there is the possibility for who is supporter (to payment) to make part of one federation and to participate to a forum of the same one. This situation limits the increase of the federation and for this it has been decided to create an alternative one in which anyone it can be enrolled without to pay null and without having other limitation taxes from the regulations of hattrick.

Now whichever team "cosmos" can make part of the federation writing one mail to:

cosmosfederation@libero.it

In the mail you must bring back compulsorily:

- the name of the team

- your nickname

- Nation

- Series

Moreover you can add a comment of presentation of your team or whichever other thing comes to you in mind.

Example:

- Maserada Cosmos

- Dr Sleepnight

- Italy

- VI.916

- Founding and President of the Cosmos Federation. Go cosmonauts!

You can write also in your language mother but for the understanding of all the members english is advisable.
