Political Action Arm of National Taxpayer Group Endorses Ken Buck for Senate

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 22 – ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In Ken Buck, Colorado voters now have a candidate who supports an end to budget-busting business as usual in Washington, D.C., according to the National Taxpayers Union Campaign Fund (NTUCF), the political action arm of the 362,000-member National Taxpayers Union (NTU). Today NTUCF announced its support for Buck in his bid against incumbent U.S. Senator Michael Bennet.

"Taxpayers can count on Ken Buck to bring fiscal discipline back to Washington, D.C. and bring back prosperity to our economy," said NTUCF President Duane Parde. "He represents the principles of common-sense, limited government that Coloradans believe in and deserve."

According to NTUCF research, Buck has pledged to reform America's broken tax system, oppose earmarks, and push for fundamental taxpayer protections against runaway deficit spending. "This commitment to open and accountable fiscal policy inspires hope in voters who are sick and tired of backroom deals and bloated budgets," Parde noted.

Parde praised Buck for his desire to change Washington, D.C.'s culture of tax-and-spend. The incumbent in the race, however, has a mediocre record on behalf of taxpayers. ^AљMichael Bennet voted for the recent government takeover of health care and the $787 billion "stimulus" legislation that has left the nation with more debt and little else.

National Taxpayers Union's annual Rating of Congress - which includes every roll call vote affecting federal taxes, spending, debt, and regulation - provides an additional perspective on Bennet's record. His 2009 score, based on 227 Senate votes, was 10 percent, low enough for a grade of "F" (the 2010 scorecard has not yet been issued).

"Ken Buck will be an outstanding member of the U.S. Senate," Parde concluded. "We urge Colorado voters to stand up to the Washington establishment and stand with Ken Buck as he restores responsibility to a government addicted to over-spending." љ

Note: NTUCF is the political action arm of the National Taxpayers Union (NTU), the nation's oldest grassroots taxpayer organization. NTU, founded in 1969, created the NTU Campaign Fund in 1994. NTUCF's endorsement decisions require a unanimous vote on a nonpartisan basis by a four-member committee.
