3,000 cops deployed for school opening in MM
Around 3,000 policemen have been deployed around Metro Manila in preparation for the opening of classes on Junes 10.
Superintendent Rommel Miranda, National Capital Region Police Office spokesman, said police would also guard "hot spots," mainly areas where there are high student populations, like the University Belt in Manila.
Crime rate in such areas frequently go up during opening of classes due to "economic activities" such as shopping for school supplies, ATM withdrawals, and other similar activities that open opportunities for criminals to act.
Police said cellular phone snatching is currently the most popular criminal activity. Robbers and conmen reportedly would usually have a field day victimizing students and pupils during the same period.
Two to four policemen were to be assigned to particular areas near schools, while plainclothes policemen would also be deployed to "crime-prone" areas for added protection. Apples Jalandoni, ABS-CBN News
