Voters approve hotel tax for construction of sports complex

The tax passed by a vote of 3,200, or 67 percent, to 1,578, or 33 percent, cheap jerseys according to complete but unofficial results from the Secretary of State's Office. Voter turnout on the issue was 8 percent.

The hotel tax will initially bring in $300,000 annually, which will first be put toward the construction of the $20 million Bayou Country Sports Park, which was formerly known as the Field of Dreams.

Afterward, the tax will be put toward other recreational improvements, according to Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet.

is a win win for the people for Terrebonne Parish, Claudet said leading up to the proposition. vast majority of these taxes will be paid by people visiting our community. tax will be in addition to 4 percent already assessed on hotel motel visits. Three percent is used by the Visitors Bureau to promote tourism. One percent benefits the Houma Terrebonne Civic Center. Hotels must also pay state and local taxes. Wholesale NFL Jerseys

The completed park will include baseball, softball and multipurpose fields along with 17 mid and full length soccer fields, an eight court tennis complex, a dog park, a skate park and a man made lake with a beach and sand volleyball court.

The project's construction will be spread over five to eight years, according to parish officials. The tax will provide a consistent revenue stream.

Softball fields will be among the first things built in the project's first phase.

The goal is to have the first phase complete by spring 2015, according to Christopher Pulaski, senior planner and zoning administrator for Terrebonne Parish.

Claudet noted most of the parish's hotel stays are on Mondays through Thursdays via business travelers.

Having an attraction like the sports complex will bring more visitors in on the weekends and increase the amount of money raised through the tax, he argued. Two hotels are currently under construction in Houma.

Tigers trade Prince Fielder to Rangers for Ian Kinsler

The Texas Rangers acquired first baseman Prince Fielder and $30 million from the Detroit Tigers for second baseman Ian Kinsler.

Fielder approved the trade, which was required because of www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-mats-sundin-authentic-jersey-c-1_455_460.html a limited no trade provision in the nine year, $214 million deal he signed with the Rangers in 2012.

"He fits what we're looking for a middle of the order power threat that is durable and plays to win," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-doug-gilmour-authentic-jersey-c-1_455_469.html "He's a good complement with Adrian Beltre in the middle of our order."

Because of the major difference in player salaries, the Tigers agreed to send $30 million in cash to the Rangers as part of the deal.

Fielder, 29, still has seven years and $168 million remaining on the nine year, $214 million contract he signed with Detroit in January 2012.

Over his two years with the Tigers, Fielder hit .295 with a .387 on base percentage, a .491 slugging percentage and averages of 27.5 homers and 107 RBIs. He played 162 games each year, was an All Star both seasons and earned a Silver Slugger award in 2012. His power numbers and a miserable postseason (9 of 40) could be read Mats Sundin Womens Jersey as indications Fielder is passing his prime. Daniels disagrees.

"We don't feel that way. We're excited by what we see of him in the future," he said.

Fielder began his career with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2005. From 2006 11 with the Brewers, he averaged 38 homers and 107.7 RBIs per year, earning three All Star appearances.

The Rangers were looking for an offensive upgrade at first base after Mitch Moreland endured a disappointing season. They were equipped to seamlessly transition top prospect Jurickson Profar into the lineup at second base.

Likewise, the Tigers have a ready made fix in the infield. MVP Miguel Cabrera will play first base, with Detroit expected to slide Nick Castellanos, one of the shooting stars in their farm system, into the vacant spot at third.

Kinsler, 31, has four years and $57 million remaining on his contract, plus a $10 million club option Doug Gilmour Womens Jersey or a $5 million buyout for 2018. He signed a five year, $75 million extension with Texas in April 2012. Even if the Tigers buy out Kinsler's final season, they would put in $92 million rather than $168 million owed Fielder and could use the difference to retain Cy Young winner Max Scherzer.

The Tigers received second baseman Ian Kinsler in the blockbuster trade, which must be approved by MLB commissioner Bud Selig. Fielder had to approve the trade as well, since he had a limited no trade clause in his contract, and both players needed to pass physicals to make it official.

The Rangers not only get Fielder, who slipped to 25 homers and 106 RBIs while hitting .279 in 2013, but his big ticket, long term contract. Detroit signed the 29 year old to a nine year, $214 million deal before the 2012 season and he's still owed $168 million over the next seven seasons.

Wheaties Box Athletes

Michael Phelps Former Wheaties Box AthleteNow, don't be shocked by this news. but, Michael Phelps has decided not to choose to be a Wheaties Box Athlete this year.

Go Dion Phaneuf Womens Jersey figure?

Although Cheerios is reported as the best selling cereal in the US, followed by Kellogg's Frosted Flakes, Honey Nut Cheerios, Honey Bunches of Oats, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, the favored placement for any red blooded American athlete is to be found on the box of the ever famous Wheaties cereal.

The beginning of the Corn Flakes and Wheaties Box Battle.

Breakfast cereal has an interesting history, starting its debut as a healthy meal in the morning. The American Seventh Day Adventists formed the Western Health Reform Institute in the 1860's, which was later named the Battle Creek Sanitarium because of its location in Battle Creek, Michigan. It was there that the Adventists manufactured and sold wholesome cereals and promoted the healthy start.

In 1906 Will Keith Kellogg, in an attempt to improve the diet of hospital patients by increasing their grain intake and finding a healthy bread substitute, accidently came up with a tasty wheat flake cereal. Kellogg became the cereal industry giant and inventor of the corn flakes.

Wheaties The Breakfast of Champions

However, according to the Wheaties website, the cereal called Wheaties was created as a further development of the accidental flake, by George Cormack, who perfected the process of producing the flakes themselves. He was the head miller for the Washburn Crosby Company, or the predecessor of General Mills. The name "Wheaties" was given to the cereal as a result of an employee contest to name the cereal, won by Jane Bausman, the wife of a company executive.

Wheaties, who has always sold itself as the "healthy way to start your day", is famous for becoming the "breakfast of champions" and traditionally placing famous athletes on the cover of their bright orange box. Making one ask, "have you had your Wheaties today?"

Lou Gehrig, the first Wheaties Box Athlete

The first Wheaties box athlete to gain the spot on the cover of the box was the famous Yankee slugger, Lou Gehrig in 1934. Following Lou Gehrig the years have seen many famous athletes donning the cover of the Wheaties box, but only seven have been chosen as "official Wheaties spokespersons" for the cereal. They were not only chosen for their champion skills in their sport, but also for the inspirational role they have played in their community as models of champions in charitable endeavors as well. The seven athletes have served the US by contributing their never ending leadership skills to benefit the youth of America.

Wheaties Spokesperson Bob Richards

The first spokesperson was chosen in 1958 and was Bob Richards. Richards has promoted physical fitness and athletic participation through the organization known as the Wheaties Sports Federation.

Wheaties Spokesperson, Bruce Jenner

In 1976 Bruce Jenner became the second Wheaties spokesperson and has tirelessly promoted physical fitness across the nation. Jenner is also a loyal supporter of the Special Olympics as well as numerous other charitable organizations.

Walter Payton, Another Wheaties Spokesperson

In 1986 football legend Walter Payton became the fourth Wheaties spokesperson. Peyton established the The Walter Payton Foundation in order to provide support for children's educational programs as well as programs for abused and neglected children, and although Peyton has passed away Teddy Purcell Womens Jersey his foundation continues to offer help and support to millions of children across America. This spectacular tennis superstar was the winner of over 157 women's single titles, including 18 Grand Slam events. Evert has been involved in numerous causes for children and has formed Chris Evert Charities, Inc., a nonprofit organization designed to help improve the lives of children, preserve and strengthen families, and promote healthy, drug free lifestyles

Michael Jordan Wheaties Sixth www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-dion-phaneuf-authentic-jersey-c-1_455_458.html Spokesperson

Michael Jordan, basketball legend and holder of six NBA Championship rings, five regular season MVP awards and six NBA finals MVP crowns became the sixth Wheaties spokesperson. Jordan has supported numerous charitable organizations including the Boys Girls Clubs of America, UNCF (United Negro College Fund), Ronald McDonald House and the Special Olympics.

Wheaties Box Athlete Tiger Woods www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-teddy-purcell-authentic-jersey-c-1_444_452.html

Tiger Woods Rounds Out the Wheaties Box Spokespersons The seventh Wheaties box sensation and spokesperson to join this elite list is Tiger Woods, the golf sensation. In fact, Woods could easily be considered to be the greatest golfer of all times. Woods established the Tiger Woods Foundation in 1996 to help empower young people through the game of golf. The foundation awards numerous scholarships and organizes minority youth golf clinics in cities throughout the country.

Is the cover of the Wheaties Box up for grabs?Although being a spokesperson for Wheaties is quite an honor, just being considered to be on the cover of the Wheaties box is something that is sought after by many athletes today. The list of past athletes includes many who are respected and honored in their field of expertise. After the 2004 Olympics Michael Phelps achieved the "Wheaties Box Athlete" fame, but for 2008 he has moved on to the original flake cereal, Corn Flakes.

I guess that leaves the Wheaties Box Athlete up for grabs for this Olympic year?

I nominate Bryan Clay for the new Wheaties Box Athlete! The 2008 Olympic Gold medal Decathlon winner was from the US, a position that has been elusive for the US in recent years. This incredible athlete who competed in ten different track and field events over a period of two days is Bryan Clay. Clay joins the ranks with Bob Mathias, Rafer Jonnson, Bruce Jenner and DanO'Brien.

Engram embraces his legacy at wide receiver for Penn State

Bobby Engram sprinted away from the question the same way he had for scores of precisely executed post routes over the course www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-steven-stamkos-authentic-jersey-c-1_444_448.html of his career.

Asked if it was possible to accurately compare receivers across eras now that Allen Robinson has begun to erode Engram prominent place in the Penn State record book, Engram paused.

Engram, whose Nittany Lions season receiving yards record was broken last week by Robinson, is in his second year as Pitt receivers coach. And he establishing a solid resum.

Last season Engram oversaw the performance of Mike Shanahan and Devin Street, who nearly became the Panthers first 1,000 yard season receiving duo. This season Engram has been instrumental in the development of Tyler Boyd.

A true freshman who didn play much wide receiver while at a Class A high school, Clairton Boyd has a team leading 53 catches for 729 yards and six touchdowns.

Boyd, who considered going to Penn State during his recruitment, said Engram has been a real big part of his remarkable quick success.

He a person who always makes me do right, Boyd said. From the littlest thing to catching the www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-victor-hedman-authentic-jersey-c-1_444_450.html ball, to the route " to everything

Street, a senior, has 11 touchdowns in 22 games under Engram after having four over his first 24 games.

Street said he and Engram are close more than words can explain. He going to Victor Hedman Womens Jersey be in my life probably for the rest of my life, hopefully. A guy I would invite to my wedding.

Engram maintained an interest in coaching throughout a 14 year NFL career, running football camps during his offseasons. He began as an offensive assistant with the San Francisco 49ers in 2011.

Engram best season (94 catches, 1,147 Steven Stamkos Womens Jersey yards, six touchdowns) came as a 34 year old in 2007 with the Seattle Seahawks.

I had some good coaches who really made me understand the importance of really grasping the defense and how they are trying to defend you, Engram said. The older I got in my career the more I appreciated that and coaches were able to help me do.

Now, he finding his own niche in doing the same for younger receivers. He always pulls up film of him playing at Penn State, Boyd said, to show us technique and show us his game so he can teach us it. We learn from it. McDuffie. Engram still holds the Lions season touchdowns, career touchdowns and career yardage receiving records.

Let them keep falling, man, said Engram, who said he has liked what he seen when he watches Robinson play. McDuffie, by myself, by Bryant Johnson. by all of the guys who came before him. And he just adding to that legacy.

High times in Seattle

Share PhotoSeattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll questions a call during the first half of an NFL football game against the Indianapolis Colts in Indianapolis, Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013. (AP Photo/Brent R. Smith)The NFL's top team may have a weed problem and it's not crabgrass in the end zone.

The Seattle Seahawks (10 1) are Martin St.Louis Womens Jersey facing the loss of two of their top three cornerbacks, suspended for repeated violations of The League's drug abuse policy.

Marijuana is the reported culprit.

Understandably, the news buffaloed Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

Looking back, though, there were signs.

Vetoing motivational films "Patton" and "Rudy" for the team flights, Seahawks players insisted on "Harold and Kumar www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-martin-st-louis-authentic-jersey-c-1_444_446.html Go To White Castle" and "Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay."

A team nutritionist said players' meal requests had become "bizarre, capricious and unhealthful." Turning Vladimir Tarasenko Jersey down a meal of salmon and braised asparagus, players demanded tubs of Ben and Jerry's "Chunky Monkey" ice cream.

A vocal contingent also lobbied that a Rasta Reggae cannabis flag be raised during Seattle's much acclaimed "12th Man" ceremony.

Let Carroll's www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-vladimir-tarasenko-authentic-jersey-c-1_429_721.html nightmare be a lesson to all NFL coaches: nip things in the bud.

Rival teams' fans, too, are being tested by the positive tests. Namely, how to mock the Hawks?

When baseball PED villian Barry Bonds visited San Diego a few years back, a fan threw a turkey baster/faux steroid syringe onto the field.

What's in store in San Francisco, where the Seahawks are as welcomed as a Ted Cruz fundraiser?

Game 1 of the 2010 World Series in San Francisco could inspire Niners fans come December 8. Marijuana smoke wafting from the stands that night was as thick as the fog in a Jack London story. When the Seahawks visit, if conditions at the old stadium on Candlestick Point are as smokey, take the 49ers in a rout.

The Man vs. Nature conflict in Seattle Gladiators vs. Weed fits into the narrative for this NFL season. You'll recall, the Super Bowl is to be played outdoors in New Jersey. Can't wait for Roger Goodell to announce the game's official flask sponsor.

Last Sunday night's game in bone chilling, blustery New England may have provided a glimpse of XLVIII.

There were 11 fumbles, six of which became turnovers.

Thousands of sensible Patriots fans, seeing their team fall behind 24 0, left the stadium at halftime.

Throwing into a stiff wind, the Broncos' Peyton Manning looked like Peyton Manning: a 37 year old coming off four neck surgeries.

The home team seemed more suited the elements, rallying to a 34 31 victory in overtime. Tom Brady, California raised, West Coast tough, affirmed his credentials as one of the great cold weather passers.

Like Brett Favre, who flourished in the Green Bay tundra, Brady whips tight spirals that cut through cold gales.

Bill Belichick, announcing what he thought of Manning's ability to throw into the wind, chose to kick off in overtime. It was vintage Hoodie, daring and calculated. Had Manning responded with a touchdown drive, Belichick would've been ripped for not giving Brady the ball. But the Patriots forced a punt, which bounced off a Broncos player, setting up a game winning field goal.
