NARNIA - Nel Nome Di Cristo Intervista

Finalmente i Narnia sono riusciti a trovare la loro dimensione ideale: “Enter the Gate” è un album riuscito sotto ogni aspetto, suonato magistralmente, scritto con cura e ricco di vibrazioni. Non potevamo perdere l’occasione, quindi, di fare due chiacchiere con il chitarrista della band, Carl Johan Grimmark, che, con grande soddisfazione e il solito aplomb svedese, ci presenta questo nuovo capitolo della sua band.

CIAO CARL, INIZIAMO SUBITO A PARLARE DEL NUOVO ALBUM: IL SOUND SI È EVOLUTO RISPETTO AL PASSATO…
“Sì, credo che il nostro sound si sia evoluto poco a poco nel tempo: la componente neoclassica adesso è meno preponderante, mentre sono aumentate le melodie e il riffing potente”.

QUALI SONO LE TUE INFLUENZE MUSICALI?
“Alcune band metal che mi piacciono molto sono Dream Theater e Masterplan, ma anche musica più aggressiva e moderna come Soilwork e In Flames”.

COSA PUOI DIRMI DEL NUOVO ALBUM? PERSONALMENTE LO RITENGO IL VOSTRO CAPOLAVORO…
“Oh, grazie! Sei molto gentile! Be’, è stata una sorta di ‘rivincita’ nei confronti del nostro album precedente, ‘The Great Fall’, che non mi era piaciuto più di tanto. Quindi questa volta DOVEVA essere un grande album, doveva suonare fresco e credo che, in qualche modo, siamo riusciti a farcela”.

PARLIAMO UN PO’ DELLA COPERTINA: SUPPONGO CONTENGA UN MESSAGGIO DI QUALCHE TIPO…
“Sì, ci sono un sacco di collegamenti con i testi. Lascio a voi il compito di trovarli!”.

A PROPOSITO DI TESTI: IMMAGINO CHE NELLA VOSTRA MUSICA ABBIANO UN RUOLO CENTRALE. CREDI CHE LA VOSTRA MUSICA SIA UN MEZZO PER LA DIFFUSIONE DEI VALORI CRISTIANI?
“Sì, certo! Anzi, questo è il motivo che ci spinge a continuare! Noi vogliamo diffondere il nostro messaggio di valori positivi e il nostro spirito attraverso la nostra musica e i nostri testi. Non riusciremmo a mettere così tanta passione in quello che facciamo se non avessimo la nostra fede. Certo, noi amiamo la musica in sé, ma la combinazione dei due aspetti è impareggiabile”.

TI VA DI PARLARCI DELL’ULTIMA CANZONE DELL’ALBUM, “THE MAN FROM NAZARETH”?
“È una specie di riassunto cronologico della vita di Gesù e di quello che ha fatto nel mondo. La prima parte racconta di come sia stato accolto come un grande maestro, mentre la seconda parte narra di come fu tradito e ucciso e come questo avvenimento sia stato significativo per tutti noi”.

COME DICEVI, QUESTO BRANO RACCONTA NUOVAMENTE LA VITA DI CRISTO. PENSO CHE, BENCHÉ LA SUA STORIA SIA UNIVERSALMENTE CONOSCIUTA, CI SONO MOLTE PERSONE CHE HANNO UNA SCARSA CONOSCENZA DELLA FIGURA DI GESÙ. COSA NE PENSI?
“Credo sia necessario far conoscere Gesù e il suo messaggio di pace, speranza e vita eterna a tutto il mondo. È triste vedere come la civiltà occidentale (e mi riferisco specialmente alla Svezia, dove vivo) si stia concentrando soprattutto sugli aspetti materialistici della vita, su una fede che dice ‘Io sono il mio Dio’. Invece bisogna rendersi conto che tutto è transitorio: solo Dio rimane”.

TORNANDO ALLA MUSICA, STATE PREPARANDO UN TOUR DI SUPPORTO ALL’ALBUM?
“Sì, ci stiamo lavorando, ma non posso ancora dartene conferma. Stiamo cercando di fare un tour in America e di certo faremo diverse date in Europa, soprattutto in Scandinavia”.

COS’ALTRO C’È NEL TUO PROSSIMO FUTURO?
In questi giorni sto lavorando ad un progetto solista assieme a Peter Wildoer dei Darkane e Jan S. Eckert dei Masterplan. Si chiamerà ‘Grimmark’ e spero possa uscire in autunno. E poi, naturalmente, inizieremo a lavorare al nuovo album dei Narnia.

UN’ULTIMA DOMANDA: RECENTEMENTE È STATO REALIZZATO UN FILM SULLE “CRONACHE DI NARNIA”. L’HAI VISTO? TI È PIACIUTO?
“Sì, mi è piaciuto. Certo, è un film realizzato per un pubblico di bambini, però il suo messaggio è ancora forte e chiaro”.
