Justin Bieber was just a kid when Eminem put out his first album. Today, he's still just a kid, but they're on equal footing at Sunday night's American Music Awards in Los Angeles as both vie for the title of entertainer of the year. The 16-year-old heartthrob and the best-selling rapper also face some other competition for the trophy: Newlywed Katy Perry, dance queen Lady Gaga and Ke$ha are also up for the top award. Eminem is vying for a total of five American Music Awards, along with country trio Lady Antebellum. Both acts had two of the year's top hits — Eminem with "Love The Way You Lie," featuring Rihanna, and Lady Antebellum, with "Need You Now." For Lady Antebellum, 2010 has been a breakthrough year. Their album, also titled "Need You Now," not only solidified their status as top country stars, but provided them with a pop following, thanks to the album's title track, which was a No. 2 pop hit. For Eminem, 2010 has been the year of the comeback. Though the best-selling and critically acclaimed rapper has always produced platinum-plus sales, a drug addiction, time away from the scene and a sub par album in 2009's "Relapse" had pushed Eminem from his rap throne. With "Recovery," so far the year's top-selling album with nearly three million sold, his supremacy has been restored. The American Music Awards, which will air live at 8 p.m. EST on ABC from L.A.'s Nokia Theater, celebrate the most popular music acts in the nation, as determined by fan votes. Other nominees include rapper B.o.B, the Black Eyed Peas, Drake, the music from the hit TV show "Glee," Sade, and last year's entertainer of the year, Taylor Swift. Who does Delaware Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Chris Coons want campaigning in Delaware? Sarah Palin, of course. Facing attention-grabbing Republican candidate Christine O’Donnell, the Coons campaign sent an e-mail to supporters Tuesday wondering aloud why the matriarch of the “Mama Grizzlies” hadn’t yet fulfilled a promise to campaign for the struggling candidate. “The Delaware Republican Party turned its back on O’Donnell. Then the National Republican Senatorial Committee turned off their support,” read the letter. “Sarah Palin’s absence in Delaware is a sign that she is set to do the same?” Far from a rhetorical question, the Coons campaign seems eager to actually have the former vice presidential candidate make an appearance for O’Donnell. “I think Sarah Palin coming in would be great,” said Coons’ Communications Director Daniel McElhatton. “Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, [and] Christine O’Donnell have all the same types of ideology and policy positions … So if Sarah Palin wants to come in and articulate those positions to Delawareans, all the better.” The Coons camp’s eagerness to have Palin stump for O’Donnell might be reflected inthat suggests Palin has a negative net impact of 16 percent on independent voters, though it’s not as bad as President Obama’s negative net impact of 27 percent. While polls currently show Coons leading the race by , the O’Donnell camp recently sent a message to supporters claiming that gap between the twoљwas shrinking. “Chris Coons’ tired rhetoric is wearing thin and the polls are showing it,” read the message. MTV.com will be live streaming the New York City red carpet premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 at 6 p.m. ET today, and fans will also be able to participate in the event via Twitter. NEW YORK – A flight attendant who captured America's attention when he told off a plane full of passengers and then slid down an emergency chute resigned from his job last week and wasn't fired, his lawyer said Sunday. Steven Slater left the job at JetBlue Airways Corp. on Wednesday, after he had been suspended following the on-board antics he was charged with committing last month, attorney Daniel J. Horwitz said. JetBlue had said Saturday that Slater was no longer an employee but didn't give any details, which prompted online speculation he had been fired. Horwitz said he and Slater were still working out some details with the Queens-based airline but wouldn't elaborate. "He was not fired," Horwitz said bluntly. Slater, 38, worked for JetBlue for about three years, though he has spent nearly 20 years in the airline industry. He was working Flight 1052 from Pittsburgh to John F. Kennedy International Airport on Aug. 9 when, he said, an argument took place with a rude passenger. After landing at JFK, he went on the public address system, swore at a passenger who he claimed had treated him rudely, grabbed a beer and exited via an emergency chute, prosecutors said. Slater was arrested and was charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and trespassing. His lawyer has said a passenger's "lack of civility" prompted his behavior. His next court date is Tuesday. Slater became an instant sensation and was water cooler talk for days. Online, camps formed on either side of the debate, canonizing or vilifying him, calling him a hero or a cranky brat. Slater had said after his arrest that he loved flying and wanted to return to work, and some of his tens of thousands of online fans had urged the airline to keep him on. It's unclear whether he will seek airline employment with another company. JetBlue said last month that Slater was suspended pending an investigation. It told employees in a memo that press coverage was not taking into account how much harm can be caused by emergency slides, which are deployed with a potentially deadly amount of force.
