True Religion Jeans Sale means he is a damn hard person

Post n°26 pubblicato il 22 Gennaio 2014 da northfaces1

The rain man One of the things i most like about michael mortell is his love of culture be it movies, music or young people. But it True Religion Jeans Sale means he is a damn hard person to interview about designing, because he'd far rather talk about something else. This season i took mr mortell by the lapels and insisted that, for once, he talk about his work. Michael mortell designs raincoats. He's been doing this since he first started out about 20 years ago.Just like burberry or barbour, his look is identifiable. There is the michael mortell fabric. He has his own very lightweight wax-Looking fabric, which unlike actual wax jackets can be dry-Cleaned.Or there is his classic trench moleskin fabric. The shape is always sharp-Looking and deceptively simple. But there are beautiful subtle details, such as the flattering slight flare in the body of the coat, special linings, leather trim details or secret pockets.I remember buttons used to really obsess him. The michael mortell look has a slightly country feel to it, but there is very definitely urban chic in there too.If you really want to give the man in your life a coat he will like and wear, you should check out michael mortell's black pu range of jackets and coats and his country range(Pu is the resin with which they treat fabric to make it waterproof).I know a gorgeous man who has one and loves it so much he actually calls it michael. For the price, michael mortell coats are a bargain, because they never wear out or fall apart. That is testimony to mr mortell's perfectionism and skill at his profession. "Designing raincoats, there is a relationship between design and function. If i was designing a suit, i could make it in any fabric. But the primary function of the raincoat is a water repellant,"Michael told me by way of explaining the challenge of what he does. "I say to design students on work placement that designing a raincoat is like designing a table or a beautiful chair:It must stand on its own.A raincoat is not part of a clothes range the way, say, a suit is.Everything that attracts you to it has to be within that coat.It has to work totally within itself. " I asked him whether students on work placement drive him crackers.By this i am referring to how starry-Eyed a lot of design students can be, and closed to the realism of the business. "I think i drive them crackers,"He responds, laughing. "Fashion is a very hard industry. But you try to energise them, not discourage them.Youth has its own energy and fortitude. "We should always have faith in youth.Youth will always have its own voice and find its own means. " So what is it that young designers need http://www.pctaxis.co.uk/ to learn? "If you're going to build up a market in ireland, you've got to have commerciality.Raincoats have saved my life the business. One can only be creative at the expense of everything else for so long.If it can support a business, fine. "The very first huge success i had was with the mirror, mirror group, with a trenchcoat with leather details trim, epaulette and so forth. And they are still what sells. It's so important for people to put a structure in place that will back them up. " So how have things changed since he True Religion Outlet started in business? "The whole business has changed. The high street, the internet, the sheer amount of information available to all has had massive impact. In the eighties, the designer for a chain store wouldn't have had a clue about anne demeulemeester or yohji [yamamoto].But information has changed all that. "And the pressure on all the homepage here designers to create something different has got out of control.Fashion hardly lasts half a season, never mind a year.People are running in all kinds of directions to make it work. The nature of the business, of being a designer, is now different.Ten years ago all designers were the owners of their own houses. Now lvmh or gucci gobbles everything up. "Menswear is completely given over to labels. It has become very hard for a young designer to get a foot in the door. It's like the motor industry.Forty years ago there were probably 20 motor companies in england, 30 in america. But now they've all been bought up by general motors or nissan or whoever. "There is a different reality out there for young people. It's like jonah and the whale people like alexander mcqueen get sucked in and spat back out. " So how does he feel his business is affected by current events? "The weather is the thing that is affecting fashion. The weather has been so mild, and weather is the big incentive for people to buy.As you get older you think it's different! But i don't think people are so quick to go out and buy two suits and a winter coat. There isn't the social pressure to buy in season.People have different priorities these days. " Michael mortell, who grew up over the draper's shop in mallow, is the last designer and manufacturer in dublin city centre. He practically lives over the shop still, as he is a resident of the area, Too.He hopes he won't continue To be the last and that people will be attracted back inTo the industry. In the meantime, he respects his work, and rumours(Without any foundation)That he is returning To women's ready-To-Wear continue to be received with great excitement by journos and retailers alike.
