Anaheim, CA (PRWEB) March 31, 2011

Who says that good things don’t happen on April 1st? Tell that to Linda and Dennis Prina, owners of Orange County sign company America’s Instant Signs, who began their business twenty years ago on that fateful day and have enjoyed a great deal of success these past twenty years. "Breaking Dawn" producers issue plea to fans

Post n°18 pubblicato il 03 Aprile 2011 da ouaefpjsim

Seen those leaked images from the fourth installment of the "Twilight" franchise? Apparently lots of people have, including the makers of the film.

A pair of shots of stars Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson in bed (not the pic to the left) were tweeted to the world. Summit shut down the original source but the racy images are still bouncing around online, prompting the studio and creative team to reach out directly to fans.

Friday afternoon, "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer, "Breaking Dawn" director Bill Condon, producer Wyck Godfrey and Summit have released the following statement:

"As some of you may know, pictures and screen grabs of 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn' as a work in progress have leaked on the internet. We are extremely proud of this film and also extremely heartbroken to see it out there at this stage.

"The film and these images are not yet ready or in their proper context. They were illegally obtained and their early dissemination is deeply upsetting to the actors, the filmmakers and Summit who are working so hard to bring these movies to fruition to you in November 2011 and November 2012.

"Please, for those who are posting, stop. And please, though the temptation is high, don't view or pass on these images. Wait for the film in its beautiful, finished entirety to thrill you."

Tablets Present New Mobile Cost Management Challenges

Post n°17 pubblicato il 01 Aprile 2011 da ouaefpjsim

These tablets now have cellphone plans and that can be expensive if you don't understand what's included," said Gregg Davis, CIO for Webcor Builders, a general contractor company. "It can be more complicated than with cellphones."

That's because people want to use more applications on their tablets than on their phones. "The kinds of applications people are likely to use are more data intensive," said Kitty Weldon, an analyst with Current Analysis. "My appetite for wanting to watch a video on a mobile phone is really low but I can see it on a tablet."

Some of Davis' tablet users start out on the lowest-price data plans and find it difficult to know when they are going to hit their limit, he said. Since they don't know they're almost out, they may use data-intensive services, like streaming a movie, and easily surpass their limit, he said. They also may not know how to easily flip between Wi-Fi and cellular as a way to cut costs, he said.

"Some people end up being great and having almost no usage and others will have astronomical bills because they're in a foreign country streaming a movie," he said.

He uses Visage Mobile to monitor users' cell and tablet mobile services and to make changes to cut costs. The hosted tool aggregates all usage from the multiple mobile operators that Webcor uses. With it, Davis can easily spot everyone who is using expensive 411 calls on their phones, people who are roaming or workers who are clearly attached to a plan that's not a good match.

He can also at a glance look at the total utilization of data and voice plans across users and devices. "We want to keep that pool utilization anywhere around 80 percent," he said. That would mean that users are on the correct plans so that they have a bit of room in case they have a heavy usage month but aren't paying too much for service they don't use.

That feature came in handy recently when Webcor upgraded around 350 BlackBerry phones. The operator erroneously put users onto a more expensive plan. A few months later, Webcor noticed that utilization had dropped to around 30 percent. After looking into it, the company noticed that the workers were on a more expensive plan that included minutes and data they weren't using.

When it told the operator about the mistake, Webcor got a $53,000 refund for the 90 days that people were on the wrong plan, Davis said.

Without the tool Webcor would be hard-pressed to closely examine bills from the phone companies. Its bills are typically around 1,300 pages long, he said. "It's mind-boggling to figure out who's doing what, where," he said.

Such expense management products can help IT administrators better manage mobile costs on tablets and phones, Ken Dulaney, an analyst at Gartner, said. Some products will let administrators send bills to supervisors so they see the cost overages and can talk to the users. Tangoe is another company that offers telecom expense management services, as do some of the service providers like AT&T, he said.

Businesses can instead give workers a monthly stipend and have the bills sent directly to workers, he said. That can help ensure that workers are careful about expensive overages.

Davis doesn't expect operators to go back to the unlimited plans, but such plans would be ideal for him. "The unlimited all-you-can-eat is best for us, even if you have to pay a little more," he said. He would prefer a fixed cost that he can budget for and that allows users to not have to worry about data usage. Sprint currently offers an unlimited data plan but users may want devices that Sprint doesn't offer, he said.

Challenges with managing mobile rate plans will likely grow as an issue for IT managers as more tablets enter the workplace. "Our number of devices with the cell carrier exceeds users," Davis noted, since now some of his workers have tablets in addition to phones.

Deloitte recently projected that this year, more than 50 percent of computing devices sold around the world will be smartphones, tablets and non-PC netbooks. More than a quarter of the tablets sold this year will be bought by businesses, Deloitte said. Many of those devices will have Internet connections that enterprises will need to manage in order to keep costs down.

Military gay support group launches magazine

Post n°16 pubblicato il 01 Aprile 2011 da ouaefpjsim

A support group for gay military service members launched an online magazine to provide information about pending repeal of the Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, and printed copies could be on large bases by May, the group's co-director said Monday.

An active-duty Air Force officer who is the co-director of OutServe said the magazine of the same name seeks to raise awareness that the change is coming. He uses the pseudonym JD Smith because he is gay and has lingering concerns about whether he could be discharged before the policy is fully implemented.

"The magazine helps set the tone, the idea, that it's actually going to happen and normalizes it," he told The Associated Press on Monday. "The more we normalize it, the more accepted it becomes."

The free magazine will be published bi-monthly. OutServe has about 3,000 members, and the group plans to distribute copies in places like hospital waiting rooms and on stands at community centers on military bases where other publications are available.

Military officials did not respond to an email seeking comment Monday.

The magazine also will include articles about different OutServe chapters and information of interest to gay military members. Smith said group members believe the visual presence of a magazine will highlight that gays already serve proudly in the military.

The first electronic issue includes an article on a meeting between representatives in the group and the Pentagon Repeal Implementation Team. The article pointed out that the services plan to complete training at various points this summer relating to the policy's repeal. The article also said team representatives could not give an expected repeal date because the decision is being based on training completion and how well unit commanders believe units are prepared.

The electronic edition also includes information about different gay support groups in the military, such as the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, which provides free legal advice to service members affected by the policy.

President Barack Obama signed a law in December to repeal the 17-year-old "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which requires soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines to keep their homosexuality a secret or face dismissal. Final repeal implementation does not go into effect until 60 days after the president, defense secretary and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff certify that lifting the ban won't hurt the military's ability to fight.

'Blood Feast' B-movie producer David Friedman dies

Post n°15 pubblicato il 16 Febbraio 2011 da ouaefpjsim

ANNISTON, Ala. – David F. Friedman, the B-movie producer of the 1960s and '70s who turned out the cult classic "Blood Feast," died Monday at age 87, his niece said.

Bridgett Everett said her uncle died of heart failure at a nursing home in Anniston, Ala.

Friedman worked with director Herschell Gordon Lewis to create 1963's "Blood Feast," a roughly acted film that depicted the dismemberment of attractive women. The film is considered one of the first of the so-called "gore" movies, said Mike Vraney, owner of Something Weird Video in Seattle.

"Blood Feast" cost a paltry $24,500 to make — and netted a $6.5 million profit, Everett said.

Friedman was born in Birmingham, Ala., and spent much of his youth in Birmingham and Anniston. After working with carnivals, he became a press agent at Paramount before leaving in 1958 to try his hand at independent movies.

Some of his adult-oriented B-movies, such as "Goldilocks and the Three Bares were shot in nudist colonies. Others combined sexual themes with horror and crime, including "The Adult Version of Jekyll and Hide" and "The Defilers." His other drive-in fare included "Two Thousand Maniacs!" and "Color Me Blood Red."

Friedman was involved in every aspect of marketing his movies, including writing lines for the always titillating posters.

Vraney said Friedman always sold more sizzle than he actually showed in his movies, and each movie included a provocative trailer for his next film. But he thought his days as a moviemaker were over when hard-core pornography began to catch on in the mid-1970s.

"He said when it got to the point you showed it all, there was no more sizzle," Vraney said.

Friedman moved to Anniston in 1988 to be near his late wife's family.

"He thought all of his movies were forgotten," Vraney said.

In 1991, Vraney tracked him down and began reissuing his films. His films found new markets and he was invited to speak at film festivals, where he delighted audiences with his promoter-style personality.

"He was bigger than life," Vraney said. "He could drink like a fish and he smoked giant cigars."
