(LaPresse) - "La memoria di questa immane tragedia, che colpì così duramente soprattutto il popolo ebraico, deve rappresentare per tutti un monito costante affinché non si ripetano gli orrori del passato, si superi ogni forma di odio e di razzismo e si promuovano il rispetto e la dignit della persona umana". Così papa Benedetto XVI, dopo la preghiera dell'Angelus, in occasione della Giornata della Memoria, ha ricordato l'Olocausto e le vittime del nazismo.
Il Santo Padre si è poi rivolto ai ragazzi e alle ragazze dell'Azione cattolica presenti in piazza San Pietro per la conclusione della Carovana della pace. "Cari ragazzi - ha detto Benedetto XVI - la vostra Carovana della pace è una bella testimonianza. Sia segno anche del vostro impegno quotidiano per costruire la pace l dove vivete".
"Caro papa - ha detto una dei due bambini accanto al pontefice in occasione della chiusura della Carovana della pace - anche quest'anno l'Azione cattolica è in piazza San Petro per concludere con te il cammino del mese della pace" per "gridare di nuovo alle nostre citt il bisogno di pace che c'è nel mondo". "Stiamo sperimentando se siamo davvero capaci di pace" ha proseguito la bambina, chiedendo al Santo Padre "di pregare per noi, affinché riusciamo a fare della nostra vita un grande spettacolo, guidato dall'unico vero regista, Gesù. L'Azione cattolica di Roma, caro papa, non smette mai di volerti bene". Al termine del breve intervento, il papa, come da tradizione, ha liberato le due colombe bianche. "Siano - ha detto - un segno di pace".
