What is Cold Formable Blister Alu-Alu

Cold Formable Blister Alu-Alu is made of aluminum foil, nylon (BoPA) and PVC films, by using dry bond lamination technology. As blisters are formed at room temperature, without heating, so it is called as cold forming blister laminated foil.

Alu-Alu bottom foil is one type of triplex packaging material, between each two layers, there is adhesive for lamination. The adhesive what we are using is imported from USA, to ensure good performance during cold forming process, such as no delamination and cracking.

Tiptop’s Alu-Alu triplex film is manufactured using the state-of-the art machines to meet the high quality requirements of the pharmaceutical & food Industry, and it is registered and active in China FDA now.

Advantage

As one type of blister packaging barrier, cold formable blister Alu-Alu is made of composite materials that include aluminum foil, so it is totally against the visiable light and UV rays, and nearly 100% resistant to moisture, oxygen, so it is a perfect primary packaging barrier for high sensitive products.

On the other hand, with its whole aluminum shaped format, it gives high value image to your product.

Usage advice

Generally speaking: the light foil (25/50/60) is good enough for small blisters or doses, like 1# or 2# capsules, small round tablets or pills, etc. But the blister profile and distance between each one will affect the performance of cold forming.

So it is best that you could share us the forming drawings, or send blister packs to us; if not available, the clear images of blister pack will be helpful to check and recommend the good foil to you.

Meanwhile the operating speed, mold condition would take into account. Do not worry, we Tiptop will offer free sample to you for machine trial. It only takes 5-7days to prepare plain sample.

What is PVDC

PVDC is polyvinylidene chloride, known for its excellent gas barrier properties against water, oxygen and many gases (aromas). It also has better corrosion resistance than PVC due to its higher chlorine content and is sometimes copolymerized with PVC to improve its performance.

PVDC is applied as an aqueous coating over the PVC rigid film; its weight is expressed in grams per square meter (gsm or g/m2). 40gsm/ 60gsm/ 90gsm/ 120gsm are common. Its performances are in proportion to the weight of PVDC coating.

Advantages of PVDC

Compared with PVC rigid film, PVC/PVDC duplex film has much better barrier properties, special against the moisture, a ideal packaging film for humid-sensitive medicines. meanwhile it can be used on the same blister packaging machine for PVC film, no new nachines needed, which save your investment.

Normally the PVC/PVDC is transparent (crystal). It allows patients to have a look at the capsule or tablet directly, which is much easier to identify medicines on a given day.

Triplex PVC/PE/PVDC film

An additional layer of PE is introduced between PVC and PVdC to improve the barrier properties like OTR & WVTR. This film is termed as Triplex due to the 3-layered structure. This layer of additional coating is to increase the shelf life of the product.

Triplex films can give a high gloss or metallic finish to the product.

Normally PE layer is 30micron thick, with two options: easy to peel-off or not.

PVC layer and PVDC coating options are same with duplex film, so the triplex film also suits all types thermo forming machines.

Advantage of Pharma Grade Rigid PVC Film

Rigid PVC is strong, economical and safe, considered as the ideal material for most retail blister packages.

Alu-PVC blister pack is very popular in our daily life, such as for OTC oval drugs (over-the-counter) and other small-size dose, chewing gums, dragees, small-piece foods, etc., whereby the rigid PVC is formed to be blisters by heating, then to seal with the aluminum lidding foil on blister packaging machine.

Pharma grade rigid PVC film is almost universally produced on a calendar, a “rigid” or “un-plasticized” material, with low residual monomer content and tailored shrink profiles.

Normally the mono PVC is transparent (clear), which makes the encased product perfectly visible to the consumer, and provides reassurance that the product amount is as advertised or prescribed by doctor.

Normally the gauges 200mic (7.5mils) and 250mic (10mils) offer sufficient material to form blisters of a size that conventional tablets, pills, and capsules can be placed in them and pushed out of the blister. But for duplex doses, soft gelatin capsule, chewing gums, etc, heavy film shall be used, like 300mic (12mils), even 400mic (16mils). They all are available in Tiptop.

What is blister pack

Blister pack is a popular packaging solution for tablet, capsule, pill, chewing gum, candy, and other small-size food, etc.. It consists of two parts: the lidding foil (commonly aluminum) and the semi-rigid formed cavity, both are good barrier to external factors, such as humidity and contamination for extended periods of lifetime.

Since the product is individually sealed into each blister, it is easy to carry and friendly to customer to consume as the using indication printed on the lid foils. Meanwhile the manufacturer’s name or logo printing is another good way to promote and market your products and company.

Structure of PTP blister foil

Aluminum blister foil is coated with primer and heat sealing lacquer on different side of plain aluminum foil, but without printing.

The primer coating is suitable for printing in customer’s plant, by solvent/ alcohol-base ink. It also withstands the high temperature of heating during blister packaging process, to guarantee the printing layout.

The heat sealing lacquer is food grade, and easy to seal with PVC, PVC/PVDC, Alu-Alu bottom foil, PP, etc, by heating on blister packaging machine.

Both soft and hard aluminum foil are used as the lid of the push-through pack (PTP).

By only a small stretching force, the cover foil hard temper can be broke relatively quickly; the unit-dose will be released easily, which is helpful for the weak patients or emergency.

On the other hand, soft aluminum foil is also being used as the closure; more force must be applied to get the drug since its higher stretching force. Thus, such pharmacutical packaging is considered to be children-resistant.
