Prime Minister Subu Ndebele officially opened the luxury R727 million North Coast stadium last night, throwing the first dice on the main floor of the glamorous Shibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom.
Ndebele, along with many dignitaries including MEC for Arts, Culture and Tourism Narend Singh, congratulated Afrisun on a seven-year gamble.
The company, comprising major shareholders Sun International, Moreland, Dolcoast and a number of Black empowerment partners, received its last casino license of the week in August 2000.
The palatial Afrofantasy venue, just north of Umranga, is not only expected to inject billions of dollars into the local economy but has already created jobs. According to Tristan Kache, division director at Sun International, Shivaya has already created 1,300 permanent jobs during construction, as well as around 5,000 temporary and 1,000 indirect jobs.
During the development, Afrisun built an interchange on the N2 highway, providing safe and efficient access to facilities that can park in 2,200 vehicles. This off-ramp is also expected to affect the future development of the entire Northern Corridor, which is beginning to become known as the Shivaya node. 파워볼사이트
“The interchange symbolically unlocks the bar in the region for development. It highlights the reality of the construction of King Shaka International Airport in La Mercy and hints at further growth in the region,” Katsuzhe explained.
Moreland, one of the minority shareholders, is already planning new developments on both sides of N2 near Shivaya.
Regarding the original casino bid, a temporary casino was created on Mount Edgecombe. Opened in February 2001, the highly successful Sugar Mill Casino moved locks and stock and barrels to Shibaya with 650 employees, allowing it to seamlessly transition into what has been touted as one of the most technologically advanced gaming businesses in the country.
Last night’s preview of the gaming facility showed the innovative use of sophisticated smart card technology when it comes to Shibaya’s 900 slots and 37 game tables, which include roulette, blackjack, and poker and span three areas: a main floor, a dedicated smoking floor, and an elegant and luxurious royal court.
Kaatze said Sun International is dominating local gambling with a 42% local market share, driven by extensive industry research and development, resulting in continued development of new and innovative gambling products.
Highly successful local products include Sun International’s Mystery Jackpot, which will see slot machines randomly trigger items ranging from instant cash to holidays, cars and other merchandise.
Sharks Slot Game, a specially designed Sharks Slot Game, a wide-area progressive jackpot available only at Sun International Casino, and Dem Bones, another exclusive Sun International game product.
With traditional and modern Zulu designs and themes, the Shibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom is a must-see for locals too.
