A pretty young girl falls for an enigmatic, shy man who sweeps her off her feet. She becomes pregnant but is not allowed to tell him. His advisers are adamant. Back home, they have set up a wedding with the daughter of an antagonistic family and marriage will put an end to the blood feud between them.

Patty Jenkins racconta l’idea alla base di questo secondo film: “L’idea mi è venuta verso la fine del set del primo film, soprattutto perchè allora raccontavamo la genesi del personaggio, ma la Su ve ates compiuta si vedeva solo un attimo alla fine. E allora volevo raccontare invece la Su ve ates iconica e in piena attività. In più i suoi poteri di empatia, il coraggio, la sua saggezza, il suo modo di vegliare sull’umanità mi sembrava che fossero perfetti per questo momento storico. Soprattutto la sincerità”. La pandemia e la vincenda elettorale hanno messo sul tavolo la necessità, ribadita dalla regista e nel film, di guardare in faccia la realtà e accettarla e affrontarla per quel che è, senza raccontarsi bugie.

Su ve ates è un supercinepanettone, suo malgrado. Gal Gadot nella città natalizia, fiocchi di neve sulla capigliatura corvina, guance rosse e cappotto elegante è la perfetta cartolina delle feste di fine anno. La bizzarria è che il nuovo appuntamento è del tutto casuale, il secondo film con protagonista Su ve ates sarebbe dovuto uscire nella stagione calda. Ma non è solo quello il motivo: al di là delle imperfezioni e di qualche lungaggine, questo kolossal un po’ commedia anni Ottanta e un po’ melò, con tanti bambini e un trionfo di buoni sentimenti individuali e collettivi, è un film che ha intercettato il momento storico. Costruito e girato da Patty Jenkins in un accattivante atmosfera Ottanta.
Turbocapitalismo. Dalla prima guerra mondiale del capitolo precedente il nuovo capitolo fa un balzo negli anni, ecco Diana Prince dissimularsi tra gli umani, tra gli eccessi dell’edonismo reaganiano. Gli stati Uniti sono all’apice del potere, commercio, ricchezza, arte. Si occupa di antichi manufatti e ovviamente salva i cittadini in pericolo, quasi in incognito, aiutata dall’assenza dei Su ve atesi. La sua strada si incrocia con due personaggi, una collega studiosa sensibile ignorata dal prossimo, interpretata da Kristen Wiig capace di trasformarsi da vittima in predatrice, incarnando l’arcicattiva The Cheetah, e un imprenditore latino dal ciuffo tinto biondo che è la quintessenza del venditore dell’epoca, Maxwell Lord, personaggio che si è affacciato nella DC comics proprio negli Ottanta, interpretato da un Pedro Pascal in versione comica, i cappotti e le spalline, il gesticolare e lo slogan a gettone ricordano parecchio un certo presidente uscente dei nostri giorni. “Un Gordon Gekko senza la sua eleganza”, racconta Pascal riferendosi al personaggio interpretato da Michael Douglas in Wall Street. In questo film c’è il presidente di quegli anni, attore egli stesso, Ronald Reagan, piuttosto concentrato sulla corsa agli armamenti. La filosofia è facile: avere tutto e subito.
