These security programs can easily detect new threats and provide full protection for your device and network. But sometimes, antivirus programs start showing scanning errors. If your antivirus is not scanning; your device is not protected. You must fix your antivirus scanner before your device becomes vulnerable to threats.
Troubleshooting antivirus scanning issues on PC
Restart your PC
Your antivirus can get scanning errors when your PC faces any runtime error. This error can appear due to any reason. The easiest way to fix runtime errors is to restart the device. Go to the PC and close all running applications. Now restart the device and go to your antivirus. Run the system scan feature and check whether your antivirus is scanning or not.
Check the license expiry date
Antivirus will stop scanning functions if its license is expired. You need a check stop McAfee scanner service. Go to your antivirus and open the Profile page. Click on the subscription You will get the license status. If the status shows Expired then you have to renew it. Tap on the Renew button and you will be redirected to the antivirus renewal page. Check the resource requirements
If your antivirus is showing a scanning error after installation then you need to check the resource requirements. Every program has a few resource requirements to run. If your device is not providing those resources then your antivirus won’t work. Go to the antivirus and check the requirements. Now compare the requirements to the PC specifications. If your PC is not providing the required resources then it won’t run on your device. To run the application, you need to upgrade your device. If you can’t upgrade the device then check for another antivirus program. Install a compatible antivirus program for the system and now run the scan.
Remove another antivirus program
Security programs can show issues when the device has another antivirus program. The other program is restricting your antivirus from scanning. Installing multiple antivirus programs on the system can cause issues as they start conflicting with each other. To fix the problem, you have to remove another antivirus program from the device. This problem often appears when the user forgets to remove an expired antivirus setup from the system. Before installing a new program, you must remove the expired setup from the system. Go to the device and open the Apps folder. Now check the installed apps list. Tap on other security applications and hit the Uninstall button. Remove all other security programs from your device and then restart your device. Go to your antivirus and now try to run a full system scan.
Insect the registry files
Antivirus or other applications can show issues when the registry files are not working. These are necessary files for all apps as without these files your program can’t find the correct path. To resolve the error, you need to fix the registry files. Go to the device and run the regedit. Your registry editor page will appear. Now select the antivirus-related registry files and search for corrupted files. You have to fix those corrupted registry files. Before repairing those files, you should create a backup key. Copy those files and export them to the desktop with the .reg extension. Now you can repair the corrupted files.
Clean all junk from the system
Junk files appear on the system and accumulate your free space. These files are not harmful but can interrupt your processes. When the device accumulates lots of junk files, they often start conflicting with other programs. You should check for all junk on the system. Go to your drives and search for junk like temp files. Finding all junk from the device manually is difficult. Instead, you can use an inbuilt junk cleaner tool. Windows offers a junk cleaner utility tool. Go to the device and run the cleanmgr tool. This tool will search for all junk files on the device. Wait for a few seconds and you will see a list of junk files. Remove all these files from the system. Now restart the device and go to the antivirus. Tap on the System scan button and remove all threats from your system.
Remove reinstalled installed application
Some users reported that they are facing scanning errors after installing a new application on the system. This problem appears when the user has installed a malicious app on the device. Users often install third-party free apps for gaming, streaming, or editing. With these apps, you can use various tools for free. But some applications carry malware. When you install those applications, they start interrupting your antivirus. You must remove the malicious program from your device. Go to the device and remove the recently installed application. Also, remove all the related files and now run a malware scan.
Run Windows and antivirus update
Your app can show issues when it is running outdated. Go to the computer and open your antivirus. Check for new updates. If the new update is available then install it on your device. You should also check for Windows updates. Your OS must be running on the latest updates. Open the Settings tab and hit on the Windows Update option. Run the updates and wait to complete them. Now restart your device and check for errors.
