UPDATE: Packages libepc and libepc-ui show currently (Sept 3013) version 1.0-3, therefore you'll need to recreate package totem-plugins by modifying those dependencies in the control file of tha package totem-plugins. An example in how to do this is explained for example here for another package, for xmms. If it isn't clear anough, just google around

At the moment the only solution to play a strema through a dlna server without using Rhytmbox seems to be an old version of the Totem multimedia player. On Debia Squeeze Totem 2.30 works with its Coherence plugin. It is possible to port that old version to Debian Wheezy.

- remove all the totem packages of Debian Wheezy

- remove gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio

- eventually set gstremer properties to use ALSA

-install the following packages :

# apt-get install libpython2.6 python2.6 python2.6-minimal python-gconf libepc-1.0-3 libepc-ui-1.0-3 pyton-coherence

From the old Debian Squeeze repository, get the packages:

 totem_2.30.2-6_i386.deb totem-plugins_2.30.2-6_i386.deb totem-coherence_2.30.2-6_all.deb

Once downloaded them, recompile totem-plugins (as explained above) and then install them in this order:

 # dpkg -i totem_2.30.2-6_i386.deb totem-plugins_2.30.2-6_i386.deb

#  dpkg -i totem-coherence_2.30.2-6_all.deb

Everything should be fine now. If the system is complaining for missing dependencies, then you'll need to reconstruct the deb packages by yourself, delenting the missing dependencies from the control file

At the end, don't forget to lock the totem's packages version on synaptic/aptitude etc, to avoid losing them on the next update.

 You could also reconfigure the python dependencies in teh control files of the totem packages to use a newer version like python2.7 or maybe python3 too. I didn't try.
