Redivivus è un titolo che non lascia spazio alcuno a dubbi e si rifà sicuramente alla dipartita dai Winters Bane da parte di Owen (ex Judas Priest) nell’ormai lontano 1993. Da allora infatti solo un album nel 1997 e poi nove lunghi anni di silenzio prima della pubblicazione di questo fiammante capitolo uscito in Europa ormai da un mese. Redivivi, dunque! La formazione è stata stravolta rispetto al precedente Girth con il solo Lou St. Paul come unico superstite del ceppo originario. Mi ha piacevolmente sorpreso notare la presenza di Markus Cross che evidentemente si è ripreso dalla malattia che aveva reso necessario la sua dipartita dagli Helloween dopo solo pochi mesi dal suo ingresso. La line up si completa con Alex Koch alla voce (ex Powergod) e Jeff Welch al basso.Il genere dei Winters Bane è power, ma scordatevi melodie allegre e assimilabili unite ad assoli scala, in quanto il power al quale mi riferisco è quello di matrice statunitense che, come molti sapranno, è ben più massiccio e ruvido rispetto a quello continentale. Si inizia con un’opener infuocata come Seal The Light nella quale Cross dimostra di essere in forma, l’up tempo prosegue per i suoi binari senza scomporsi e dimostrando la tecnica e l’appeal per un sound oscuro arricchito da backing vocals. Decisamente più easy listening la banale ma accattivante Spark To Flame che si snoda su un riff potente e un ritmo sostenuto ma non eccessivo. Un assolo di batteria, seguito da uno di chitarra cerca di spezzare gli equilibri per un brano che definirei da sede live. The World è un mid tempo con un bel cantato aggressivo e a tratti distorto cui si contrappongono pallide melodie che cercano di farsi spazio senza particolare successo. Trovo inutile dilungarmi su una tracklist così omogenea come quella offerta in Redivivus. Per quanto possa ascoltare e analizzare ogni singolo questi sono permeato dallo stesso sound. Un power heavy metal tecnico, veloce, aggressivo con canzoni di breve media durata, voce spigolosa e tanti riff e solos di qualità. I nostri non inventano nulla e la loro musica la potrei definire a metà strada tra quella dei Judas Priest e Nevermore. Redivivus mostra senza di dubbio una formazione in salute che pecca di originalità ma, detto questo, non bisogna sminuire un disco ben confezionato, prodotto e suonato da 4 professionisti. Un lavoro che farà la felicità di molti e che si lascia ascoltare senza difficoltà. Per veri metal head che hanno voglia di una bella scarica di metallo battente con qualche melodia senza tuttavia gridare al miracolo strappandosi i capelli. Per i fans della band mi sento di dire che l’esordio del 1993, che ho avuto modo di ascoltare solo in modo approssimativo poco prima di scrivere questa recensione, mi sembra di ben altro livello.
