Recensione Libro "Metal Estremo"

“Metal Estremo” rappresenta uno dei vademecum più intriganti presenti nell’editoria del metal (ahimè sempre troppo piccola). Lontano dalle grandi bibbie come Metallus (peraltro molto completa), questo libro tratteggia valide biografie non solo dei gruppi storici, ma anche di altre formazioni magari meno conosciute ma sicuramente degne di accenni.
La parola chiave che marchia questa produzione editoriale sembra essere “ottimizzare”; ottimizzare in 160 pagine tutte le informazioni che possono tornare utili ad un appassionato del genere, ma non solo. Proprio nella prefazione lo scrittore Joel McIver invita a sfogliare il libro non solo ai “fanatici” del settore, ma anche a coloro che dimostrano simpatia e curiosità nei confronti del genere. Dicevo ottimizzare perché vengono presentati oltre 250 gruppi, tutti forniti di una scheda per così dire “tecnica” dove vengono anche consigliate le produzioni migliori. Non mancano le foto dei gruppi di spicco e le immagini di qualche copertina significativa.
Questo libro non è però solo un elenco di gruppi, perché vengono inseriti anche aspetti utili ed interessanti, come ad esempio una breve storia del metal e schede informative di quattro generi: si va dal thrash, al death, dal black al doom. Poi seguono alcune domande stile F.A.Q come “Quali sono le più grandi band di metal estremo?”, oppure “Il metal estremo è anche politicamente estremo?”. Da non aspettarsi risposte banali, anzi. Il tutto viene spiegato nella maniera più chiara e limpida possibile.
Nelle pagine conclusive del libro si apre una sezione concisa che illustra i nomi dei musicisti più importanti che hanno segnato e continuano a segnare la storia del metal. Ad esempio: “Faust: vedi Emperor”, “Mantas: vedi Venom”, “Schuldiner, Chuck: vedi Death”.
Un’altra sezione intitolata “Gruppi di metal estremo non in questo libro”, offre una panoramica ampia di 400 gruppi minori, più “underground”, che a detta dell’autore meritavano comunque una menzione.
Come se non bastasse Joel McIver consiglia anche una serie di testi più specifici per chi volesse farsi una cultura più estesa; vengono consigliati libri come “The Great Metal Discography” o “Headbangers: The Worldwide Mega-Book Of Heavy Metal Bands”.
Non siete ancora soddisfatti? Il libro si chiude con un’utilissima guida alle fonti “World Wide Web”. Vengono segnalati siti di pubblicazioni on-line, etichette discografiche e altro ancora! Che dire, un libro che può essere davvero indispensabile per tutti; per chi vuole acquistare un disco di una formazione appena conosciuta, per quanti sono curiosi delle vicissitudini delle band ed anche per chi recensisce dischi!
La produzione in questione si trova “nei migliori negozi di musica”, è scritta per mano di Joel McIver ed è edita dalla Lo Vecchio edizioni, anno 2000. Il costo è contenuto e il formato è maneggevole, con interni in bianco e nero.
