UNITED KINGDOM: UK: MPs want to ban ultra-conservative the full veil

The controversial French law banning the wearing of the full veil is emulated across the Channel. The right wing of the British Conservatives presented Friday, Sept. 6, one in second reading to ban the burqa in public places and other forms of veil hiding her face.

Already in 2010, the Conservative MP Philip Hollobone proposed, unsuccessfully, a similar text and had drawn the ire of his critics by saying that such refuse any face to face conversation with a Muslim whose face is hidden. "I'd probably ask him to contact me differently, why not mail", he had initiated.

Fiercely opposed to the text, the British National Secular Society (NSS) organization is concerned flaunted what she sees as the freedoms of expression and religion. "We reject any legal interference on the subject and believe that banning the veil may exacerbate communal tensions in the UK", announced officials of the association on their website.

Reintroduce the death penalty and privatize the BBC

But banning the full veil is not the only topic on which the British far right conservatives want to be heard. In total, they have expressed a forty legislative proposals: privatizing the BBC reintroduce the death penalty, to eliminate the Department of Ecology, raise the compulsory military service or even rename a popular holiday in "Margaret Thatcher Day".

Despite the surprising nature of some of these proposals, the Conservatives seem determined. "This is a very serious attempt to establish a policy that the British people really want. There are ideas that could form the beginnings of a future Conservative manifesto ", defends one of the authors of the text, MP Peter Bone.

Still, without a majority in Westminster, these laws, which have yet to be debated until the end of February 2014, have little chance of passing a vote in the House of Commons and thus enter into force one day.

But the Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron could have done such advertising. For the media coverage of these texts may be a little more damage to his already sore left support. "With these bills, conservatives oppose them many segments of the electorate that they might need if they wish to one day find an absolute majority in parliament," analyzes the political blog site NewStatesman.

August 15, the Conservatives were the most unpopular with the British (57% dissatisfied) to the Liberal Democrats (47%) and Labour (43%).
