Stokes led the Sun Belt Conference in scoring and was selected as a first-team All-American by both CBS Sports and The Associated Press. In basketball news, Southern University won its first conference title since 1951.

Looking for something to do in Birmingham this weekend? Check out some of the events and things to do listed below.


Birmingham Museum + Art Gallery is hosting an exhibit entitled “Ghosts of Alabama: A Photographic Exploration” from September 14th through November 10th. The exhibit will focus on Southern Ghosts and hauntings, including photos of Birmingham landmarks that have been reported to be haunted.


If you’re a fan of local soccer teams, you won’t want to miss the Birmingham Derby on Saturday September 29th. The match between Birmingham City FC and Aston Villa FC will be held at St Andrew’s Stadium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the game starts at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcomed.


If you’re looking for something more outdoorsy, head over to Shades Mountain State Park for a day of hiking, biking, and picnicking. The park is open from 7:00 a.m. until sundown daily, and admission is free. If you’d rather stay inside, check out the Birmingham Zoo during their annual overnight event “ZooLights.” ZooLights runs from September 13th through October 30th and features animal exhibits that are themed after different colors each night (red on Thursdays, orange Friday-Sunday nights, yellow Monday-Wednesday nights).
