soggiunse: "Va a rivederele rose.

"During his short life, van Gogh did not allow his flame to go out. Fire and embers were his brushs. I have thought, and wished, that I would not let my flame go out, and with a burning brush paint until the end." "Fire and ardour were in his brush during the few years that he consumed himself for his art." (E. Munch)
"...I hope that the family will be for you what nature is for me, the mounds of earth, the grass, the yellow wheat, the peasant [...] to console you and restore you when one needs it..." "...I felt the greatest pleasure in knowing that I would be returned to this earth always to be shone upon the living sun - alive..." "...What I'm doing is prompted by a deep feeling of and need for love..." "...In life and in painting too, I can easily do without the dear Lord, but I can't, suffering as I do, do without something greater than myself, which is my life, the power to create..." "...The sky suddenly turned to be blood - and I felt a wave of sadness..." "...I saw all the people behind their masks - I saw through them and there was suffering..." "...I made a point of trying to express sadness - extreme loneliness..." "...Anyone who loves an ordinary, everyday person and is loved by her is happy - despite of the dark side of life..." "...Like a star that emerges from the dark - and meets another star - in this way a man and a woman meet..." "...To express the love of two lovers through a marriage of two complementary colors..." "...When our eyes met invisible hands tied delicate threads - which went through your great eyes in through my eyes and bound our hearts together..."
"I was walking down the road with two friends when the sun set; suddenly, the sky turned as red as blood. I stopped and leaned against the fence, feeling unspeakably tired. Tongues of fire and blood stretched over the bluish black fjord. My friends went on walking, while I lagged behind, shivering with fear. Then I heard the enormous infinite scream of nature." (E. Munch)
Eccomi, dunque.
"Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) and Edvard Munch (1863-1944) are two distinctive and influential artists. Both created art with a strong emotional content expressed via a personal and innovative style, and both lived troubled lives. The public and art historians alike have often compared them to each other. And there are striking parallels between their art and their artistic aims. They each represented an artistic turn towards existential and universal themes in new and expressive idioms. Yet despite these obvious common traits, which have been underscored time and again in art history and art criticism since the end of the 1800s, the more profound connections between the two artists have never been thoroughly illuminated in the context of an exhibition.
