Moscow announced the arrest of a Chinese spy

The Russian special services (FSB) announced Wednesday they had arrested a Chinese spy who tried to obtain information on advanced Russian missiles S-300, Russian agencies reported.

"The Chinese citizen, who was a translator at the official delegations, trying to obtain documents (...) on weapons systems S-300 which is a state secret, with Russian citizens to whom he promised a reward ", the FSB announced in a statement.

The alleged spy, "was arrested October 28, 2010 in Moscow," the FSB that has made the information public until Wednesday.

The missile system S-300 are similar to American Patriot, a mobile machine sophisticated air defense capable of destroying cruise missiles and combat aircraft.

This system is capable of destroying missiles and shoot down planes at a distance of 150 km and an altitude of up to 27 km. It was developed during the 1980s.

In April 2010, Russia delivered to Beijing 15 batteries each containing four S-300 missiles. Besides China, other countries like Slovakia, Vietnam and Cyprus have already purchased this air defense system.

In June 2010, Moscow froze the contract delivery to Iran of equipment after the adoption of new sanctions against Tehran at the UN.Israel, the United States and Europe had risen against the contract, fearing that this equipment does for the effective Iranian nuclear facilities.
