How to protect a baby in changing weather?

From feeling your baby in your tummy to holding him in your arms is an incredible journey. With each step parents become stronger and stronger but as the weather changes from cold to hot and vice versa babies find it uncomfortable. Even adults feel a slight discomfort with the change of weather. Nowadays climate change can affect daily weather conditions. You need to be prepared and careful of your baby’s requirements. You can find all baby essentials here. A few tips for parents to understand them.

Layer baby properly

Parents should layer their babies with a soft muslin swaddle by and a light soft piece of shirt and pants. Then they should wrap them in a blanket to provide them with a good feel. This will be easier to add or remove layers. The recommended three layers are a must to protect infants from losing heat.

Regulate temperature

Weather change means temperature change. Babies are susceptible to temperature. Sudden temperature changes affect them severely. Try to manage a comfortable temperature for babies.

Breastfeeding

Apart from basic nutrients breast milk has much more goodness like vitamins and minerals. They contain antibodies that protect from stomach bugs, colds, bacteria, and other infections. Breast-fed babies are more resistant to colds and infections. If they catch a cold or infection they recover faster than bottle-fed babies. Babies should be breastfed for at least the first 6 months.

Vaccination

Vaccination is the best way to prevent illness and other diseases. Make sure the baby’s immunisation schedule is up to date.

Hygiene

Regardless of the season, the best way to avoid infection and disease is to clean your home properly. Make sure your hands are not dirty when you are with the baby. Clean their hands regularly with warm water. Keep hand sanitiser handy. Use disinfectant to clean areas in regular use.

Proper nutrition

If the baby is breastfeeding, make sure you don’t eat anything that can be harmful to the baby. Keep baby nutrition rich in minerals and vitamins.

Check allergies

Some allergies run down to family. If you have any family history of allergies, try to avoid them. If allergies like pollen and mould are in the family, keep protection and ask your paediatrics for emergency medicine.

Conclusion

The above precautions will help your child to protect from seasonal change. There are some additional precautions to be taken for babies.

  • Avoid crowded areas during this season to avoid infections spread
  • Sanitise your hands before you pick up your baby. Hand sanitization should be done frequently.
  • Keep your baby and yourself a distance from sick people.
