Omayra Sáncez fu una bambina vittima del vulcano nevado del Riuz, durante l’ eruzione che distrusse il villaggio di Armero, Colombia nel 1958.

Omayra è rimasta 3 giorni intrappolata tra fango e acqua, in mezzo ai resti della sua casa.

Nel periodo dell’incidente la piccola colombiana aveva solo tredici anni, durante i tre giorni rimase aggrappata ad un palo, sopra il corpo dei suoi famigliari

Quando arrivarono i soccorsi, verificarono che era impossibile tirarla fuori, perche le sue gambe erano intrappolate l’unico modo era imputare, tale operazione  risultava impossibile per mancanza di mezzi chirurgici.

La seconda soluzione era una pompa potente tanto da rimuovere un’enorme quantitá di fango, la unica pompa disponibile era distante migliaia di chilometri.

Rimaneva solo aspettare che morisse, Omayra si dimostro forte fino all’ultimo momento di vita, secondo le testimonianze dei soccorritori e giornalisti presenti, lei passo la sua  agonia solo pensando al suo  collegio e al giorno dell’esame.

Il fotografo Frank Fournier  scattò la foto di Omayra, che girò tutto il mondo, creando una controversa in merito alla indifferenza del governo colombiano a rispetto delle vittime.

La foto venne pubblicata un mese dopo la morte della bambina, molti videro questa immagine, e dal 1985 inizio quello che oggi chiamiamo Globalizzazione, la sua agonia venne seguita in diretta dalle telecamere da varie emittenti televisive,  è viste in tutto il mondo.

Omayra has remained 3 days trapped between mud and water in the middle of the rests of his/her house. 
 
In the period of the accident the small Colombian was only thirteen years old, during the three days she remained seized to a pole above the body of his/her famigliaris, 
 
  
 
When the paramedics arrived, they verified that it was impossible to throw out her, because its legs were trapped the only way it was to impute, such operation resulted impossible for lack of surgical means. 
 
  
 
The second solution was a powerful pomp so much to remove an enormous quantity of mud, the only available pomp it was distant thousand of kilometers.  
 
He/she remained only to wait that it died, Omayra he shows strong up to the last moment of life, according to the testimonies of the rescuers and present journalists, her footstep his/her agony only thinking about his/her college and the day of the examination. 
 
  
 
The photographer Frank Fournier went off the photo of Omayra, that turned the whole world, creating a controversial regarding the indifference of the Colombian government to respect of the victims. 
 
The photo was published the death of the child one month later, many saw this image, and from the 1985 beginning what we today call Globalization, its agony was followed in directed by the television cameras from various television broadcasting stations, it is all over the world sights.
