the wsj aired concerns that with a few more rate cuts the fed funds target rate would approach the point at which it will be close enough to zero to not leave room to cut any further. in 2002 when the rate was at 1% Bernanke dismissed these concerns, saying that the fed could print money to buy treasuries. the current inflationary environment would make this action highly undesirable now.
