La Val Maone si trova nel cuore del massiccio del Gran Sasso d’Italia, stretta tra il monte Corno a ds. nell’immagine (Est) e il pizzo Intermesoli a sin. (Ovest). Sale da Pietracamela (Te) al passo della Portella (2266 m), dal quale si può scendere ad Assergi (Aq) ed è quindi una via di comunicazione storica tra l’aquilano e il teramano. L’immagine è stata presa l’8 ottobre 2017 dalla cresta della Portella, con un grandangolo abbastanza spinto (11 mm ful formato micro 4/3). Il punto di ripresa è sostanzialmente obbligato perché retrocedendo di pochi passi la cresta della Portella blocca completamente la vista della valle. Scattare questa foto è facilissimo perché il punto di ripresa è a Nord della valle e la luce è buona per tutta la giornata o quasi, a qualunque ora uno arrivi (il passo della Portella è a un’ora di cammino da Campo Imperatore, dove si lascia la macchina); però è necessario un grandangolo corto e di buona qualità perché il centro dell’immagine è vuoto ed è invece necessario un buon dettaglio sui bordi dell’immagine, dove si trovano le vette dell’Intermesoli e del Corno Grande.
Maone Valley is located in the middle of the Gran Sasso mountain, between mount Corno (Horn) on the right in this image (East) and mount Intermesoli on the left (West). The valley climbs from the village of Pietracamela (near Teramo) to the Portella pass (elevation 2266 m), from which one can reach the village of Assergi (close to L’Aquila); it is thus a historical connection between the two cities of Teramo and L’Aquila. The image has been taken on Oct. 8, 2017 from the Portella ridge using a wide angle lens (11 mm on the Olympus e-pm1 micro 4/3 camera). One does not have many choices for shooting the Maoune valley, because the Portella ridge blocks the sight from the south. Taking this picture is easy because the Portella pass is North to the valley, thus the light is good for the greatest part of the day (reaching the pass from Campo Imperatore where one leaves the car requires one hour walking). However one needs a good quality and quite short wide angle lens because there is nothing in the centre of the frame, and detail is required at the borders, where the Intermesoli and the Corno Grande lie.
