Incyte grazie all’intelligenza artificiale generativa illustra il “viaggio invisibile” della convivenza con le neoplasie mieloproliferative

Incyte ha lanciato una nuova campagna per aumentare la consapevolezza sui sintomi spesso difficili da vedere delle neoplasie mieloproliferative, o MPN, accompagnate da immagini create dall’intelligenza artificiale che rendono invisibili sintomi visibili e creare una rappresentazione visiva delle esperienze di alcuni pazienti con le malattie.

La campagna “ The Unseen Journey ” è incentrata su quattro pazienti affetti da neoplasie mieloproliferative, forme di tumore ematologico che ha origine nel midollo osseo, le più comuni delle quali sono la policitemia vera, la mielofibrosi e la trombocitemia essenziale.

Le descrizioni dei pazienti di cosa vuol dire convivere con le neoplasie mieloproliferative sono state inserite in un motore di intelligenza artificiale generativa, ottenendo immagini che catturano il modo in cui le malattie possono stimolare le loro attività quotidiane e rallentare le loro aspirazioni di carriera, con la storia di ciascun paziente catturata in un breve video sul sito della campagna.

La stanchezza di Chelsea P., che spesso le impedisce di uscire di casa, si manifesta come un soggiorno pieno di fumo soffocante e piante in decomposizione mentre Dave S. sperimenta il sintomo come se si sentisse come se dovesse guadare ” l’acqua alta fino alla vita ” per affrontare la giornata.

La confusione mentale di Ashlee P. fa sembrare che tutte le sue idee migliori siano intrappolate in una scatola di vetro smerigliato, e gli improvvisi periodi di stanchezza di Mickey T. si manifestano come una gabbia per uccelli che impedisce alla sua energia altrimenti vibrante di volare libera.

Ma non è tutto negativo. La campagna include anche illustrazioni generate dall’intelligenza artificiale di ciascun paziente in tempi più felici: Mickey in uno stadio di calcio, Chelsea con la sua chitarra, Dave su un molo soleggiato e Ashlee che ammira l’alba.

” I sintomi delle neoplasie mieloproliferative possono essere difficili da riconoscere e descrivere e l’esperienza di ogni paziente è diversa, il che a volte può rappresentare una sfida per i pazienti, i loro cari e i loro team sanitari nel comprendere l’impatto della condizione sulla vita quotidiana. Queste immagini generate dall’intelligenza artificiale dipingono un quadro vivido di cosa vuol dire vivere con una neoplasia mieloproliferativa e spero che contribuiranno a creare un nuovo livello di consapevolezza ed empatia per le persone con queste condizioni ”.

Il sito web di Unseen Journey include anche un collegamento al sito web “ Voices of MPN ”, dove i pazienti possono registrarsi per ottenere l’accesso a un’app mobile per il monitoraggio dei sintomi.

Il programma MPN di Incyte comprende un farmaco approvato e un’altra mezza dozzina in fase di sviluppo. Nel 2011, Ruxolitinib, un inibitore JAK che Incyte vende come Jakafi ( Jakavi nell’Unione Europea ), è il primo farmaco approvato dalla FDA per il trattamento della mielofibrosi.

Più recentemente, Incyte ha puntato a ottenere un’altra approvazione per una versione a rilascio prolungato del farmaco che offrirebbe un’alternativa una volta al giorno all’attuale schedula di due volte al giorno di Jakafi.

Incyte Launches ‘The Unseen Journey’ to Elevate Impact of MPNs on Patients’ Lives via Generative AI

The Unseen Journey brings to life the often-misunderstood impact of common myeloproliferative neoplasm ( MPN ) symptoms through AI-generated images developed from the words and experiences of real patients

Incyte announced the launch of The Unseen Journey, a program that brings to life the hidden emotional and physical toll of myeloproliferative neoplasms ( MPNs ), a group of rare, chronic and progressive blood cancers. Through the use of generative artificial intelligence ( AI ), the stories and experiences of MPN patients were transformed into unique images to help them show their health care team and their loved ones the significant impact of their MPN symptoms.

The Unseen Journey highlights the stories of people living with MPNs who were asked to describe their symptoms and how they impact their lives in their own words. As each patient described their symptoms and experiences, generative AI tools transformed their words into images that visually depict the patient’s most burdensome symptoms. The resulting images provide a vivid look at the reality of living with an MPN.

“ MPN symptoms can be difficult to recognize and describe and every patient’s experience is different, which can sometimes create a challenge for patients, their loved ones and their health care teams to understand the impact of the condition to daily life. These AI-generated images paint a vivid picture of what it is like to live with an MPN, and we hope they will help create a new level of awareness and empathy for those with these conditions. ”

Polycythemia vera ( PV ), myelofibrosis ( MF ) and essential thrombocythemia ( ET ) are the most common MPNs. MPNs are progressive diseases that can worsen over time, and changes in symptoms, which can also be a sign of disease progression, can be subtle and hard to assess. It is important for MPN patients to track their symptoms on a regular basis to help inform conversations with their health care provider.

“ I regularly struggle with my MPN symptoms, including fatigue, brain fog and headaches, but because I don’t look sick on the outside, people in my life have trouble truly understanding what I am going through,” said Chelsea, who has been living with PV since 2018. “ The AI-generated images created of my symptoms capture how I often feel in a way I could never describe to my friends and family. I hope my images and story resonate with other people living with MPNs and inspire them to proactively share what they are going through with the people in their lives.”

It also includes tools and resources to support people living with MPNs to proactively identify, track and discuss their symptoms or any changes in their health with their health care team.
